Speakers Business Design SummitOn April 19th and 20th The Business Design Summit takes place in Berlin, Germany. During the event 10 business leaders will talk about their 10 business design tools for practical strategy and innovation. The event is organized by the core team of Business Model Generation: Alex Osterwalder, Alan Smith and Patrick van der Pijl, author, designer and producer of  Business Model Generation. The summit will be hosted by Lisa Kay Solomon. I had a short interview with Alex Osterwalder to talk about this upcoming event.

Why a summit on business design?

The summit is about business design and not about business model design. Why? The success of the Business Model Canvas, our first business design tool, showed us how powerful practical tools can be. We want to bring more of these tools into organizations and not just the ones we designed ourselves, but the very best from all across the world. We need better and more practical business design tools for every aspect of business, not just the business model. That’s why we launched The Business Design Summit.

How are the 10 leaders connected?

Each one of them has a practical business design tool to present. We will apply them directly in their sessions and not just hear about them. This is a hands-on practical Summit! The exciting thing is that the tools of these speakers are already spreading, but nobody has ever put all of them onto the same stage. The Summit will be a success when the tools spread and when they are used in people’s everyday work. We want people to be inspired AND walk away with stuff they can immediately use in their work.

Why should people come to Berlin?

I sincerely believe that this is the beginning of a new era of strategic management and entrepreneurship. One that is driven not just by gut instinct, but by tools that you can integrate into your everyday work. Isn’t it exciting to be part of something that will change the way we do business? This is your chance to be there at the very beginning! This event is the first of its kind. If it is successful we hope to bring the event to every continent. This is a movement already and we want to bring people together in Berlin and beyond – all around the world. Join us!
