Talk 1: Fanatic’s journey to microservices: a tale about our distributed data pipeline
Speaker: Kevin Chan
Description: This talk is about Fanatic's journey to microservices and focuses on the data pipeline written in Python. It will go over the goal, architecture, implementation issues, solutions, and ongoing
improvements. Fanatics is a sports apparel and fan gear retailer.
Bio: Kevin Chan is a Devops Engineer at Fanatics for the past two years, where he has worked on containerization, CI/CD, and process automation. Prior to this he was an Android Developer at a stealth startup, and was a Satellite Communications Technician and Ground Radio Technician at the US Marine Corps.
Talk 2: Feature flags at Carta: how we made deploys less scary
Speaker: Adam Savitzky
Description: As your organization grows, so does your risk of accidentally shipping broken code. Feature flags allow your team to ship with confidence by letting you instantly enable or disable wholesale portions of your code. In this session you'll learn how Carta uses feature flags to implement "dark launches", taking the stress out of our previously chaotic release process.
Biography: Adam Savitzky is a Staff Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team at Carta. He led the development and implementation of Flipper, Carta's feature flag tool and is focused on building foundational services and tools as Carta transitions to a service-oriented architecture. Prior to Carta he was Founder and CTO of Intrust. He has previously worked as a lead and team member at various tech organizations large and small including Driver, Yahoo, and MessageMe.
