My fellow goonies/newbies,
Zero scores and almost two years ago, this group appeared on the internet and served as a merry haven for new (and old) residents of the area. It had a fabulous momentum that came to make it one superb meetup group - that become home to a big community of awesome folks.
Unfortunately, that momentum has died down in past months. Simply put, this group started to become too big. Events that were once on average 20 people started seeing as many as 80 people start to turn out!! Although this was great for meeting new people (more folks = more friends), it made organizing become much, much harder for those of us throwing things together. Sooo, we slowly started to stop doing events and, as a result, the calendar became the ghost town it's been in these past months.
We're hoping to change that. We're making a few changes to how our meetup works, in an effort to get that momentum going again.
For starters, events are going to start having RSVP limits so that we can keep things at a manageable size. That being said, we're also enforcing an attendance policy to make sure people don't abuse the RSVP system. If you rsvp yes and fail to show up 3 times then you will be booted.
Secondly, we're going to try and have two monthly recurring events...
The first: Newbies Brunches. Since we already have a large group of regulars, chances are the RSVP for events will fill up quickly. This event is special in that it is restricted just to the "newest" members that haven't really shown up to anything. It's a super small meetup that'll serve as a place for new, new members to be welcomed into the group and not feel left out in the crowd. So if you've just joined or haven't been to an event then please come out to one!
That being said, we're going to keep Symposium (which many of the oldies are familiar with) going. where we just chill in a bar and kick back. Unlike the brunches this is open to everyone to RSVP to.
Finally, we want to encourage people to step up and be organizers. We're going to try a system to let new blood come in for organizing events. If you're interested in organizing events then check out this guide.
Anyways, that's it. Hope we can get this group alive again and see you all at future meetups!
