About the Panel



Michael Dorf is a partner in Shearman & Sterling’s M&A Group based in San Francisco. Michael has extensive experience in U.S. domestic and cross-border M&A and private equity transactions, carve-outs, venture capital financings, strategic investments and joint ventures. He has represented public and private companies, private equity funds and venture capital investors in TMT, healthcare, renewable energy and other industries. Michael also represents portfolio companies of private equity clients, handling day-to-day legal activities, add-on acquisitions, and general corporate work.



Al  Longfield is a Managing Director in the corporate finance department at ROTH Capital Partners. Prior to joining Roth Capital, Mr. Longfield served as an industry group head for investment banking groups for both Canaccord Adams and RBC Capital Markets. Mr. Longfield has completed over 75 investment banking transactions representing more than $6.6 billion in transaction value.  Prior to investment banking, Mr. Longfield worked in the Corporate Finance Group at KPMG Peat Marwick LLP. Mr. Longfield received an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS in finance from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana. Mr. Longfield is a CFA and former CPA in the State of Illinois.



From Jan 2013 until October 2016, Tammy Tompkins was an operating partner at Khosla Ventures where she served on the board of directors of several companies in Khosla Ventures'  sustainability and healthcare portfolios, leveraging her more than 20 years of legal and operational experience.  From 2013 until early 2016, she also served as Khosla Ventures  general counsel and chief administrative officer.  In that capacity,  she managed Khosla Ventures'  legal, financial, investor relations and operational/administrative matters.

Prior to joining Khosla Ventures, Tammy spent over seven years as the general counsel of Amyris, Inc. [NASDAQ: AMRS], a bio-renewables company based in Emeryville, California which Tammy joined as the third employee.  During her tenure at Amyris, Tammy managed multiple rounds of private financing, helped establish and manage a Brazilian manufacturing subsidiary, negotiated numerous complex cross-border licensing deals, strategic collaborations and joint ventures and played a critical role in managing the company’s initial public offering. She also managed human resources, intellectual property and regulatory matters for Amyris and played a principle role on the management team as Amyris scaled to over 500 employees.

Prior to Amyris, Tammy spent ten years in private practice, first with Shearman & Sterling, then Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison and finally as Of Counsel at Morgan Lewis.  Her practice initially focused on general corporate work and merger and acquisition transactions and then shifted to intellectual property and strategic commercial transactions.  In[masked], she left the law firm practice to serve as the first executive director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology at Boalt Hall.  Prior to attending law school, she worked for several United Nations agencies, focusing primarily on issues affecting women and children in the developing world.
