Hike the Beast!!!

Details
The Beast is a great hike with considerable, but not overly steep gain in the first 3 miles, leveling off where it traverses the ridge to a pit stop before you head down into the San Fernando Valley. The gain is about 1,000 ft. The hike ends in Wilson Canyon just above Sylmar. The trip one way is about 10 miles. We will arrange a shuttle for you. Dave Pulsifer, Helen Sweaney, and Frank Digorio have agreed to provide the shuttle for us. If anyone else would like to volunteer for this, please let me know.
All others, please meet at the Park and Ride at the end of Newhall Road at 8:15 for an 8:30 departure up up up the trail~! (Leader: Dianne)
Directions: Exit SR-14 at Newhall Avenue, turn south. You will see the park and ride right there in front of you. Come early to get a parking space...this is a popular place to park, and there are not a lot of spaces. Alternate parking is available in the MRCA lot for $5.00 per vehicle, payable to the Iron Ranger on site.
Bring lots of water (at least 2 quarts if it is warm), lunch, snacks. NOTE: The shuttle people will be paying for parking at the far end. Please bring a dollar or two to help them out with their parking costs. Thank you!
