Speaker 1: Andy Carle, Product & Prototype Engineer, Moddable.
"Why JavaScript Matters for Embedded Development"
Consumer IoT is fundamentally broken. The vast majority of popular devices being sold today are strictly controlled by their manufacturers and closed off from developers. This results in devices that feature a disturbing lack of transparency, are impossible to fully customize to our needs, and are dependent upon online services that may or may not continue to exist over time. In this talk, I will discuss how scriptability solves these problems and more by allowing for safe, open, and customizable products.
Speaker 2: Kathy Giori, Sr. Product Manager, Mozilla.
"Mozilla Project Things: IoT Demo"
Come learn about Mozilla’s Project Things initiative. It is an open source implementation aimed at promoting a decentralized, and W3C-standardized, Web of Things framework for managing IoT device data. Mozilla’s implementation puts people first, protecting user privacy and security, while promoting industry interoperability.
8:00 - Announcements, show and tell, etc.
