Come early for networking, pizza, and drinks!

7:00 - "How I Automate My Pool Pumps and Can We Do Better?" by Johannes Ernst, Indie Computing Corp.

Johannes will be giving a two-part talk to our group:

In part one, he will walk us through his home-made device that automates his pool pumps. This system combines a Raspberry Pi, open source software, and custom circuitry to deliver a custom solution unobtainable with off-the-shelf products.

In part two, we will discuss new requirements and concerns that have arisen in day-to-day use of Johannes's system: power consumption and coordination between devices to avoid overloading household electrical circuits. These problems are difficult to solve with closed-source and siloed IoT devices from multiple manufacturers. We will examine how facilitating a JavaScript layer on devices would allow clean and flexible solutions to these problems.

7:45 - Announcements, Demos, etc.
