Presentations:
Welcome, Austen Collins
Welcome from Austen Collins, the founder and CEO of Serverless - makers of the Serverless Framework (https://github.com/serverless/serverless). The open source framework allows you to easily build web, mobile and IoT apps with serverless architectures using AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, Google Cloud Functions, OpenWhisk and more.
Learn more about the Serverless Framework in this quick Getting Started with Serverless (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIIjEI2fYC-C3NJF7a4-Cvh5hjdCmrVmN) video tutorial or the Docs (https://serverless.com/framework/docs/) .
Single-Page Apps & Going All In On Serverless Architecture, Jared Short
Having a single-page app driving APIs creates polished and user friendly apps. But what about SEO? Performance? Deep linking? Jared Short, Director of Innovation (& Awesomeness) at Trek10 (https://www.trek10.com/), will explore some challenges and solutions when going all in on a serverless architecture for single-page apps.
Jared focuses on contributing back to open source projects, staying on the cutting edge of technology, and helping clients figure out how the heck to implement, manage and maintain that cutting edge tech. These days his daily work includes Serverless, IoT & GraphQL.
When Keeping It Serverless Goes Wrong: The View From The Ops Side Of The House, Michael Ford
Whether it's a single-page app, or a complex serverless architecture design, there are challenges for an Ops team when running infrastructure for serverless (yes you still need it). Michael Ford, Senior Site Reliability Engineer at IOPipe (https://www.iopipe.com/), will highlight some of the challenges from an Ops team perspective including troubleshooting, the need for mapping frontend to backend requests to specific invocations, understanding serverless performance and more.
Mike comes from a DevOps/systems admin/customer evangelist/do whatever it takes type background working for startups over the last 12 years. He previously worked in the Openstack space and SDN, cloud IPS/IDS space and wireless networking. Now his days are spent constantly learning the evolving space of serverless while making sure to put out as many fires as needed at IOpipe - a serverless monitoring company.
Preview of the Azure Functions Serverless Framework Plugin, Chris Anderson & Pragna Gopa
Members of the Azure Functions team are making the trip to SF to demo the official Azure Functions Plugin for the Serverless Framework, and answer your questions. Chris Anderson, Program Manager, and Pragna Gopa, developer on Azure Functions, will share and demo some of the latest updates and functionality within Azure Functions. They'll showcase a new integration to facilitate event-driven compute with Functions. Chris and Pragna are dedicated to advancing state of the art serverless technology, and can't wait to share their latest developments. This is your chance to get a sneak peek at how the plugin works before the official release.
