About This Event

Creative careers are by nature highly individualized. There are no road maps, but there are some important things creative people can do to increase their chances of success.

In this panel discussion hosted by SheSays Denver and General Assembly, we will learn from some of the most creative designers, marketers, and entrepreneurs in Denver. They will share successful career strategies, ways to find inspiration, and tips for building a creative career.

This event concludes with a 20-minute class exercise for each participant to imagine and define their creative career. Join us to start dreaming, imagining, and building the creative career you really want.

Michelle Crippen (https://generalassemb.ly/instructors/michelle-crippen/15190)

Senior Art Director,
Xuma Communications

Michelle comes to Denver by way of Kansas where she received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Design with an emphasis in Visual Communication from KU. But one day, she found herself not in Kansas anymore, but in Venice, Cornuda, Bologna and Parma, where she worked under master printer Alessandro Zanella at Tipoteca Italiana Fondazione. (While no one is sure exactly what that means, it sounds really impressive…every single time she brings it up.)

Armed with an artist’s eye, a farmer’s work ethic, and the ping pong skills of a quick wristed Chinese Olympian, Michelle pleases her parents by actually using the skills she studied in college to make a handsome living.

With stints at two Kansas City agencies, Fleishman-Hillard and Sporting KC, Michelle was also a senior Designer at IMM in Boulder. Currently, she’s a Senior Art Director at Xuma Communications in Denver where she spends most of her time working on Steamboat Ski Resort, as well as an athletic shoe and sports apparel company headquartered in Portland Oregon. Her work is featured in award shows near and far, and her early work, which many a critic would agree is quite undisciplined, and her brother considered “abhorrent, irrelevant and a blight on our home” hangs on her mother’s refrigerator.

With 7+ years under her belt, she's worked at some of the country's top agencies, Goodby, Silverstein + Partners, Butler, Shine, Stern + Partners, Arnold Worldwide and Toth + Co. to name a few. While on her world tour, she's worked on almost every type of client you can think of, big and small, including Espolon Tequila, Keds, Chevrolet, Timex, El Pollo Loco, Progressive, Hyatt and Wrangler Jeans. When she's not sweating the details of one of her projects, she can be found raiding the snack cabinet. She has a real problem.
