Leadership style: peers vs. reports

Details

There seems to be a lot of styles of leadership. Below a couple found through https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/leadership-styles

  • Democratic Leadership
  • Autocratic Leadership
  • Laissez-Faire Leadership
  • Strategic Leadership
  • Transformational Leadership
  • Transactional Leadership
  • Coach-Style Leadership
  • Bureaucratic Leadership

In this session, I would like to explore how one adapts their style of leadership when they deal with their peers vs their reports. This was triggered by a recent 360 leadership feedback that showed that my style is more suited with peers, than my reports. Would like to tackle and find the differences by sharing some of your journeys in this space and unpick some situations and categorising them.
I have experience with the servant leader approach that trickled through from my bosses in the past, but lately have explored the idea of host leadership. Finding the right balance between Hero leadership and Servant leadership is appealing. A host has just enough control to get things done, without trying to take on everything themselves one way or another (either as a servant leadership or by hero leadership).

About the facilitator:
Eve is a Dev Team Lead at NHS Digital / NHS.UK with a relatively short leadership journey (2 years) as well as a tech volunteer or Sheffield Ruby User Group & BCS South Yorkshire. She is here to listen, share and learn.

Timetable:

18:00 for a hot and cold buffet style meal (sandwiches / canapes etc)
18:30 - 20:30 for the workshop

We're a small, low-key friendly group, and newcomers are always very welcome. If you're interested in getting peer support on another leadership topic that's relevant to you right now, come along and chat to us - there may well be other people interested in the same topic and we can help make it happen.

There is level access to the venue through the main door and there is a lift and a single stall gender neutral bathroom. Free parking is available next to the door.
