What we're about

Having trouble focusing/being productive, or do you simply need a change of scene from your usual writing environment? Come along to Shut Up & Write! on Wednesdays for an hour of focused writing, in an informal and supportive atmosphere. This is for writers of any genre and you do not have to share your work.
Most people who come find it helpful to be in the company of other people with the same goal and it's surprising how productive you can be in one hour. Aside from the writing, it can be enjoyable doing something different after work, getting out on a week night and meeting new people.

• From 7pm: Buy a coffee, find a seat, meet fellow writers

• 7:30pm: Pen poised/laptop ready and… write!

• 8:30pm: Head off or stay and chat about what you’re working on/life in general. Note that this Starbucks closes at 10pm.

** Note this is NOT a group for critiquing your writing. There are many groups in Edinburgh for this purpose. This group gives a space to write and nothing more; and many members like the fact you do not share your work at the end because it's more relaxed**

We meet in the right hand corner so we're near each other and can chat before or after the writing hour! I'll aim to be there at, or before, 7pm and will look out for any newcomers.

You might not know that meetup.com charges organisers a fee. From 2018, I'm asking that people who come to a session make a small donation (£1 or £2 a month is plenty!) to help me out with the fee. There will be a collection box on the table and you can put money in if you choose.

Shut Up & Write!

Starbucks

A chance to meet up with other writers before settling down to an hour of focused work! We sit at the long table at the back of Starbucks. New members always welcome, and though our normal table takes around 10 people, there’s usually plenty of space to spread out if more attend. So please if you want to come, come. I know it's not news to most, but Meetup is not free to the organisers. There is, and will not be any dues for attendance, but any contributions are appreciated. There will be a small collection tin on the table for this purpose. Literally £1 or £2 a month (not per week) would be enough to cover the admin fee. In the unlikely even of an excess, it might subsidise some group socialising.
