HIKE THE TEQUEPIS TRAIL NEAR LAKE CACHUMA

Starbucks in La Cumbre Plaza

An 8 mrt moderately strenuous hike with elevation gain about 2400 feet. The trail begins near the shores of Lake Cachuma and steadily ascends the north side of the Santa Ynez Mountains behind the Gaviota coast. It offers views of the lake and valley and there are broader ocean views from the top. The trail starts on a dirt road through a shaded riparian canyon alongside a seasonal creek. It then transitions to a single track in mostly sun-exposed chaparral. We’ll have a 20 minute break near the top for a snack/lunch.

Appropriate for intermediate hikers and beginners with good conditioning. This is not an easy hike and you should not attend if you do not exercise regularly. Under 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent.

The hike leader has the right and responsibility to refuse a participant for any reason, including lack of appropriate clothing/footwear/gear, sufficient water or food, and/or behavior deemed unacceptable to the leader and other participants. You may be asked to leave if you do not comply with any and all leader requests at any time during the hike.

MUST bring at least 2 liters of water, snacks/lunch, and sun protection. This will be about a 6-7 hour excursion with 30 minute drive to trailhead, 5 hrs of hiking, and the return drive. Meet at 7:00AM outside the Starbucks in La Cumbre Plaza, 3815 State St, Space #G-141. If you are coming from north of Santa Barbara, you can meet us at the trailhead and please call/text for instructions. No dogs. Rain cancels. ELLEN (805)[masked].

All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver that will be provided at the meeting location.

This hike is limited to 10 people, including the hike leader.
