Abstract
Java has evolved over the years to be the change that software developers need as well as adapt to the changes that the industry is seeing. However the feel of java has remained the same. The latest wave of change is happening in the form of Big Data on the data center side on one hand and Internet of Things on the other. This session will start with a brief overview on Oracle's Java Strategy being right in the center of these changes. The session will briefly walk through new features in JDK7, with a focus on fork/join framework.
Lambda Expressions is the single largest upgrade being to the Java programming model. In addition, it makes the fork/join framework more powerful. The session will introduce Lambda Expressions in Java SE8, why there is a need for Lambda expressions and how it will benefit parallel programming. The session will introduce parallel streams in Java SE 8. The session will end with a quick look at Oracle's Java SE support model
