Plant Trees at Lake Cunningham Native Garden
We will be supporting the California Native Plant Society ( and Lake Cunningham Volunteers, a community-based volunteer group in San Jose whose mission is to enhance the environment at Lake Cunningham Park by removing invasive plants and planting California native wildflowers, perennials, and shrubs, to provide summer shade through native planting, to encourage community participation, to create a sustainable, low-maintenance landscape, to enhance nature-based recreation and to create wildlife habitat. WHERE TO MEET: We will meet at the Marina Parking Lot at Lake Cunningham Regional Park located at 2305 South White Road in San Jose. ( The park's parking fee is waived for native garden volunteers (you will be given parking tags to put on your vehicle's windshield). From Tully Rd entrance : Turn left at kiosk, go ¼ mile, and park in the Marina parking lot to your right. From White Rd entrance: From the kiosk, turn left and go 1¼ mile, past the skate park, past the maintenance facility and then park in the Marina parking lot on your right. If you get lost, ask park rangers or entrance kiosk personnel (if you can find any) for directions to the Marina Parking Lot. Or you can call/text me (Magesh) at (734)[masked]. WHAT WE'LL DO: We will plant about 30 native trees in Lake Cunningham Park including Valley Oak and California Black Walnut. These trees will provide shade along the lakeside path, create habitat for wildlife, and beautify the park with foliage and fall colors. No prior experience is necessary. Training and supervision will be provided by park staff. WHAT TO BRING: Please bring water, work gloves (if you have them), sun/rain protection (if needed) and clothes you can get dirty. Closed-toe shoes are a must. Some snacks will be provided but feel free to bring your own.
