Plant Trees with Our City Forest on MLK Day - Meridian & Dentwood

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." (Chinese Proverb) On Monday, January 21st we will be supporting Our City Forest (http://www.ourcityforest.org/) (OCF), an urban forestry non-profit that strives to make the city of San Jose (and some neighboring areas) greener and more beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ngtma530krM We'll be working in teams of two or three (with other volunteer groups) to plant 50 fifteen-gallon trees along the median near the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Dentwood Drive. This is a massive planting! We need all the help we can get! If you've never planted a tree before, this is your chance! WHERE IS THIS HAPPENING? We will meet at the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Dentwood Drive in San Jose at 8:45 AM. Please keep an eye out for the Our City Forest truck and/or sign so you can find us. HOW DOES ONE PLANT A TREE? Tree planting involves digging a hole, sticking a tree in it, back-filling the hole, watering, mulching, staking and most importantly, posing for pictures (okay, maybe that last step is optional). Tools for every step will be provided. No experience is necessary. Tree coaches will show us what to do and guide us all through the process. Please arrive by 8:45 AM to sign in, watch the planting demonstration, and help set up. Planting begins shortly thereafter and we should finish by 12:00 PM (perhaps even earlier). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phyT8FDeyQw SHOULD I BRING ANYTHING? Yes, please bring water, snacks, sun/rain protection and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Gloves will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you have a pair. Closed-toe shoes are a must. WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS? Feel free to contact Gezche (https://www.meetup.com/members/188026338/) if you have any questions. Or if you'd like to get in touch with Our City Forest directly, you can contact Matt Massey ([masked]), their volunteer coordinator @[masked] (dial 3). Thanks so much for volunteering with SVV!
