Do you want to give back to your community while making new friends? Silicon Valley Volunteers is an organization that combines both aspirations. The organization is designed to help people find opportunities to volunteer in their local community while meeting others with similar interests. Silicon Valley Volunteers focuses on providing opportunities that fit into the busy schedules of professionals. Many opportunities listed on the site are in the evenings or weekends.

Food Distribution at SHFB [Signup required] - 24 Hour Service Marathon - Shift 1

Friends, Welcome to our 10th annual 24 hour service weekend! Once a year, we do 24 hours of volunteering projects over a weekend to serve our community. This year, it will be on December 14th and 15th. You are welcome to signup for just one or more shifts depending on your availability. If you are signing up for multiple events, please make sure you don't double book yourself and also budget adequate time to go from one event to another. This is shift 1. This shift runs from 9:00 AM to around 11:00 AM on Saturday (Dec 14th). ****Please reach out to me for the signup link and the group code for this event. This is mandatory **SVV events are for adults 18 and over only. Second Harvest Food Bank works to provide food for people in our community. Their mission is: Lead our community to ensure that anyone who needs a healthy meal can get one. At this event, we will be distributing food to people in the community. This is a really good event to see how the donated food, that is packed by volunteers, reaches people. Please come with an open mind to perform any tasks to help out. What should we expect? 1) Volunteers help us set up tables, unload and bring food inside a community room, bag fresh produce, distribute food to program members and clean up. This is a hands-on, fast-paced activity and a great way to help your community. *Some heavy lifting may be required.* 2) Parking may be limited, so carpooling is advised. Second Harvest Food Bank is not responsible for your valuables, so we advise that you leave ALL valuables locked in your trunk. What should we wear or bring? 1) Comfortable, safe footwear is absolutely required: sneakers, work shoes, or boots. Volunteers wearing high heels, open-toed shoes, or sandals will not be allowed to volunteer. 2) Long pants only and no tank tops. 3) Please tie back long hair. 4) Wear comfortable clothing depending on the season ( some activities maybe outdoors) 5) Sunglasses, sunscreen, hats. 6) Bring water and snacks. It can get very hot and volunteering involves physical activity. Come prepared so you can keep up your energy! FOPAL Book Sale Morning Session - 24 Hour Service Marathon - Shift 2

Friends, Welcome to our 10th annual 24 hour service weekend! Once a year, we do 24 hours of volunteering projects over a weekend to serve our community. This year, it will be on December 14th, 15th. This shift runs from 9:30 AM to around 12:30 PM on Saturday (Dec 14th). Friends of the Palo Alto Library (FOPAL) is a member-supported non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Palo Alto Public Library and its users through volunteerism, book sales, and advocacy. Our volunteers conduct monthly and online sales of books and other media donated by the community. Net proceeds from our sales are used for the purchase of books, media, online resources, equipment, and special programs for Palo Alto’s five public libraries. On Saturday, December 14th, FOPAL & KFJC 89.7FM are joining together again to offer 100's of used LP records. Cubberley Community Center - Room-M3. December 14th is also a FOPAL's Members' Early Sale. FOPAL is looking for help from volunteers to do a variety of tasks. Please come with an open mind and be prepared to help with anything needed. Assignments include cashier, floor person, line and door monitors. It's an all day sale and this shift is for the morning session. Help at the Taylor Street Farm - 24 Hour Service Marathon - Shift 3

Friends, Welcome to our 10th annual 24 hour service weekend! Once a year, we do 24 hours of volunteering projects over a weekend to serve our community. This year, it will be on December 14th, 15th. You are welcome to signup for just one or more shifts depending on your availability. If you are signing up for multiple events, please make sure you don't double book yourself and also budget adequate time to go from one event to another. This is shift 3. This shift runs from 10:00 AM to around 1:00 PM on Saturday (Dec 14th). Taylor Street Farm is a 1 acre urban farm in downtown San Jose. Their mission is to educate and create a network of food systems that builds community and improves access to healthy food. About: http://www.taylorstfarm.org What we will be doing: Volunteers take part in farm work that varies from day to day. Our most common tasks include: planting, harvesting, cultivating, ​composting and farm maintenance. They end each day with harvesting so please bring a bag to take home some veggies. Registration and Instructions: There is a volunteer consent form that needs to be filled in and brought to the event. I will send out the forms to the volunteers who RSVP. Location: Taylor St Farm is located at 200 West Taylor St. next to Citibank in downtown San Jose. ​Walk through the Citibank parking lot entrance on West Taylor St. to find the gate to the main entrance. The farm recommends using VTA to get there. What to wear: ​Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, appropriate footwear and a hat. Since it will be outdoors, sun screen and water is recommended.
