*PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU RSVP WITH YOUR FULL NAME AND BRING PHOTO ID FOR SECURING ENTRANCE TO THE BUILDING. WE WONT BE ABLE TO ACCEPT WALK-INS AS PER THE BUILDING'S SECURITY. THANKS!* Join us for an Apache Kafka meetup on December 11th from 6:00pm , hosted by Google. The address, agenda and speaker information can be found below. See you there! ----- Agenda: 6:00pm: Doors open 6:00pm - 6:30pm: Networking, Pizza and Drinks 6:30pm - 7:15pm: Gwen Shapira, Confluent 7:15pm - 8:00pm: Shaun Sit, Agoda 8:00pm - 8:30pm: Additional Q&A and Networking ----- First speaker: Gwen Shapira Bio: Gwen Shapira is a principal data architect at Confluent, where she helps customers achieve success with their Apache Kafka implementation. She has 15 years of experience working with code and customers to build scalable data architectures, integrating relational and big data technologies. Gwen currently specializes in building real-time reliable data-processing pipelines using Apache Kafka. Gwen is an Oracle Ace Director, the coauthor of Hadoop Application Architectures, and a frequent presenter at industry conferences. She is also a committer on Apache Kafka and Apache Sqoop. When Gwen isn’t coding or building data pipelines, you can find her pedaling her bike, exploring the roads and trails of California and beyond. Title: Build Event-Driven Microservices with Apache Kafka Abstract: Apache Kafka is a de facto standard streaming data processing platform and is being widely deployed as a persistent messaging system in event-driven architectures. In this workshop, we’ll explore several of the design patterns commonly used in event-driven microservices architectures, discuss some of the challenges and trade-offs that are made when designing event-driven systems and put all these ideas to practice as we’ll build an event-driven order processing application. ----- Second Speaker: Shaun Sit Bio: Development Manager, Agoda (Bangkok) Title: Evolution of the Data Pipeline in Agoda Abstract: Agoda - one of the best known travel booking sites in Asia are also one of the most sophisticated Kafka users in Asia; processing 400 billion events daily (175 TB) using 230 Kafka brokers across over 20 kafka clusters. This talk will focus on the Evolution of Data Pipeline over the years, the architecture, challenges and lessons learned, design decisions and future roadmap as Agoda continue to scale the pipeline to serve the Business needs ----- Don't forget to join our Community Slack Team! What we're about

**** Join our Slack Channel for live, global interaction! **** (

This Meetup Group will focus on the Apache Kafka® technology and its ecosystem, also allowing its members to interact and share their use cases, do and don't, how to's, etc.

We will also hear about the Confluent Platform and topics like Kafka's Connect API and streaming data pipelines, Kafka’s Streams API and stream processing, Security, Microservices and anything else related to Apache Kafka.

If you want to hear about a particular topic please let us know and we will try to find the best possible speaker. We are also very open to this being an interactive platform for the community, so if you would like to participate in other ways like speaking, hosting, writing a blog, etc, please let us know on
