Knowledge of Map and Compass usage is essential in the backcountry. 1 Wrong turn on a trail, or scouting your own routes rely heavily on these skills.

This seminar on the basics of reading UTM projection topographical maps and compass navigation will get you started in being able to locate where you are, and help you navigate to where you want to go.

We'll cover:

Types of Maps

Reading Topographical maps

UTM Grid reference

Types of Compasses

Correlating map and compass for navigation and triangulation.

Q and A

Maps and Compasses are provided for use for this course, however feel free to bring any compasses you own if you would like.

There is a $40 per person charge to help cover the cost of the room and materials. Please bring cash for this one. (unless I can figure out the paypal thing)

I understand 6PM is a bit early for some, however we need the full length of this to get everything in and I didn't want it to run TOO late.
