Would you help us?

Dear IDEA Cafe and Small Business Chamber Member,

Would you help us by joining us one Friday soon?

We're using our Denver IDEA Cafe to test a change in the way we are doing our startup workshop. It would be very helpful if you'd attend some Friday soon and let us know what you think about the changes before we start new groups. Here's what we've changed:

1) The big change is that we'll be doing each meeting from a written format. Of course the written format we use at the Denver IDEA Cafe will just be a suggestion for other group, each new group will decide whether or not to use a written format, and each will adapt it to their local situation, but the written format at the Denver IDEA Cafe will make it easier to accomplish our second change, which is

2) We will start rotating group leaders at the Denver IDEA Cafe, John Wren will no longer be leading each meeting. We've begun doing this already (thanks, Toby and Don) and it's expect that I'll lead my last IDEA Cafe this week or next. I'll still attend from time to time, but my main focus will be trying to use each Friday to hold the first meeting for similar groups. Our goal is to have 5 or 6 meetings each Friday afternoon here in metro-Denver, and then another 5 or 6 meetings across Colorado by the end of the year.

3) In the first half hour of the meeting we'll be having an informal discussion  about startup and what we are trying to do with our new Small Business Chamber of Commerce and the new startup tools, the new LOGOS Worksheet and the new book from Babson College, see

4) In addition to the invited speakers who are announced, we are going to encourage 3-minute sharing from others about how they got started in the past. We've all started something, school, a romance, a job, or a project.

5) We are going to encourage regular attendance each Friday from people who are just starting in a new direction until they come back a final time to share how they have gotten started, letting us know they are now just too busy to attend each Friday.

6) As announced previously, the first Friday of each month there will now be a business meeting at 4:15 following the regular IDEA Cafe meeting. Eventually the Denver IDEA Cafe will become self-governing.

Our intention is to develop a simple meeting format that results in an ongoing group that can be easily duplicated in cooperation with local chambers of commerce and other groups across Colorado and eventually beyond. The purpose is to provide encouragement and useful information to people who are starting in a new direction with their work.

Clearly there is a need for what we are trying to do. I just posted an article on our Facebook Page about the decline in small business across America, to see it and post your comment on it see

If you have any suggestions or questions about any of this, please let me know. The best was is to attend one of our Friday meetings, today if you can, or if that is just not possible in the near future please send me an email here via the message system, at [address removed], or give me a call at [masked]

No RSVP is ever required, but your RSVP encourages others to attend, especially people who see you'll be at the meeting who want to meet you. If you click "More about us" you'll see the reason we are now using the terms Co-CreAction and Smart Steps, and if you click "More" and "Promote" you can take advantage of the powerful tools to help us get the word out about our free startup workshops to people who could use the help.

RSVP for today's meeting or a future meeting at

Thanks very much. This life is short, let's get started!
