Will Technology Create Mass Unemployment?

Details

• What we'll do
Technology has preceded at a breakneck pace. was just about 200 years ago that about 90% of all workers were employed in agriculture. Now that number is 3%, due to technological innovation. Different types of jobs have come and gone. Yet, new jobs are consistently created, and employment generally is within several percentage points of full employment. US unemployment, even after years of great technological progress, hovers around 4%.

Will technology eventually win out? Will there someday be no new jobs to create. It hasn't happened so far. Will it? Also, can technology ever really replace a human? Can the human be reduced down to a set of functions, or will there always be a part of humans that technology can never recreate?

If technology does win out, do we give people who lack jobs a basic income to provide for their needs? And if so, will that still leave problems unsolved? What about the innate need that most people have to be productive and useful? Join us for another fascinating discussion!
