ONLINE: "Critical Thinking: 500 Years of Human Imagination"

Details
This is the Saturday afternoon meeting for Socrates Cafe. It's online. We meet every 2 weeks on Saturday.
How can we teach "critical thinking" skills? Or develop the skills that we already have? The uncommon answer is that poetry and art can develop critical thinking and practical inquiry for adults and children. To explore this topic, we will review writings by John Keats, Virginia Woolf, Herman Melville, plus famous art pieces from the last 500 years, including "Starry Night" and "The Scream". A program at the National Gallery of Art is helping students develop their minds for real world issues. The National Gallery has created a 3-step process: observing, reasoning, and asking questions. When students are encouraged to review art, they comment on the depth and details, which helps their minds deal with complex issues in the real world. Please join StoicDan for this fascinating discussion!
MEETING FORMAT
The presentation will last about 10 minutes (recorded), and then an open discussion will follow (not recorded). You don't need to read any materials in advance.
