What we're about

This group is for anyone who is interested in creating and sharing art. All mediums such as charcoal, water color, oil paint, etc. are welcome. All skill levels are welcome as well.

For our group's events, you'll find a mix of outdoor painting and indoor sketching and the locations vary from as far North as San Francisco to as far South as Monterey.

Recently we've been posting and guest posting more indoor meetups as a result of the popularity of the portrait parties and sketching, but you'll still find a couple outdoor painting events a month as well.

I should say that the events aren't classes or workshops in that I consider the group more of a social group who's members enjoy creating and sharing art with other artists. If you've got questions, are looking for a critique, or are stuck on something feel free to ask for help though. We really do have a nice mix of experienced artists.

Also, there are no fees for the group or events but sometimes there is a cost for things like parking or if we have events in coffee shops or restaurants we're usually expected to purchase something. I'll do my best to call out any fees in the event description as they come up.

If you have any questions or suggestions related to the meetup feel free to direct message me via Meetup.com's message service.

Looking forward to seeing you all and your art.

Ken

San Pedro Square Market

San Pedro Market Square

Lately one of my favorite things is to grab a table out back at San Pedro Square Market and paint or practice figure sketching. Come on out and join me.

I will most likely be oil painting from my paint book, but bring whatever art you want.

What to bring:
• Art Supplies - Bring all of your own art supplies for whatever medium you are using e.g. paints, surfaces, brushes, and cleaning supplies. For any beginners who don't know how to start or have questions feel free to post in the comments section or DM me through meetup.com's message service.
• Easels - If you're painting please bring your easel. I do have an extra French Easel, a Gorilla Painter Pochade Box and Tripod that I'm happy to lend for the day. Just let me know in the comments and I'll throw it into the car.
• Outdoor wear - We will be outdoors for most of 3 hours so bring layers, hats, sunscreen.
• Snacks/food - Most of the locations we paint at don't have food/drinks so bring whatever food/drinks you require.
• Most of the places we paint at have picnic tables or benches, but if you need to sit when you art, be sure to bring something to sit on just in case.
• A good test to ensure you have everything you need is to set up to paint in your own yard for 3 hours. If you bring everything it takes to create art in your yard then you'll have everything you need to paint with us :)

Extra info:
• We usually paint in public places. People outside of the group will generally come up and see what you're doing. Usually they just compliment and walk by and sometimes they'll stop and chat a bit. For me this took a little getting used to, but I really enjoy it now and it's become one my favorite things about painting outdoors. Please don't scare anyone away :)
• Observe all signs. Especially the "keep off" ones.
• Stay on paths, but do not block them.
• Empty any painting fluids off-site including dirty water color water.
• Take your garbage with you.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Quail Hollow Ranch County Park (Felton)

Quail Hollow Ranch County Park

Hi all, I've had a couple members mention that this park would be a nice place to try out so let's give it a shot. All of the pics looks great, free parking and restrooms. That's all I need!

My only concern is the start time is a little late and traffic can be bad on Hwy 17 after 9am on a Saturday so I'd suggest leaving for the meet up as early as possible.

Please be sure to take a minute to see exactly where we're meeting up before coming. Also, install the meetup app on your mobile device in case I have to communicate any last minute changes the morning of the meetup.

Typically what we do is catch up or introduce ourselves for 5-10 minutes at the start of the meetup, then we'll venture out and art for most of a three hours and then meet back at the picnic tables and share our art at the end of the meetup.

What to bring:
• Art Supplies - Bring all of your own art supplies for whatever medium you are using e.g. paints, surfaces, brushes, and cleaning supplies. For any beginners who don't know how to start or have questions feel free to post in the comments section or DM me through meetup.com's message service.
