What we're about

Welcome to the South Bay Contra Dance Meetup!

South Bay Contra is an inter-generational & friendly dance. If you are trying contra dance for your very first time, and you come to the Introduction at 2:30pm, then you can have a 2nd dance free pass that is good for any normal price BACDS dance (not a ball, weekend, or camp, etc).

No partner or experience needed, all dances are taught & called. Wear cool, comfortable clothes and non-marking shoes. Bring a water bottle and potluck snack if you'd like. There is a kid-friendly dance before the break. We look forward to dancing with you at the 3rd Sunday dances, from 3-6pm

Online "contra" dance!

Online event

Per Santa Clara County Health regulations, we are not dancing in person yet, but we have been "dancing" online. Yeah, it's not the same, but for many of us, the music and community make it MUCH better than nothing.

You can just watch, listen, dance along, play music (muted) and interact as much or little as you'd like. The breakout rooms are a great way to meet others, short sweet and focused.

If you are new to contra, we recommend that you watch this video introduction. Let us know when you come that you're new. Have a good time and enjoy the music and join us in person, when it's safe again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14nxFdcaKWA&t=91s

It's good exercise, so wear comfortable shoes, drink water as needed, and make sure you have some space to move around, while watching your screen (or some enjoy dancing holding a phone). Take care of your own body & needs.

We have adapted to make things more fun and there will be a variety of dances (contra, square, mixers). Some get dizzy dancing alone, so feel free to focus on your hand held up in front, or alter moves or take a break to help.
