Walk to Woodard Bay on the Chehalis Western Trail
Walk out to Woodard Bay, milepost zero of the Chehalis Western Trail. Meet at 9:45 am at the South Bay Market, 3425 Schincke Rd. NE in Olympia. The walk starts at 10 am. This is an out-and-back walk, an easy 10k (6.2 miles) with a 5k (3.1 miles) option. The asphalt trail is generally flat but does have changes in elevation. The group plans to walk at a pace to finish within two to two and one-half hours. Porta-potty available at the Woodard Bay turnaround point and partway along the trail. Possible for strollers and wheelchairs. Everyone is welcome and no fee is required to walk. However, everyone participating must sign a waiver. Volkssport credit is available at the customary fee. The group may go to lunch afterwards. That is optional and the group will decide where to go during the walk.

What we're about

Public Group

We are a group of friendly people doing weekly 10k (6.2 mile) walks all around the south sound. We walk for fitness, so these are not strolls. Expect to finish walks within 2 1/2 hours, depending on stops. All walks are American Volkssport Association (AVA) sanctioned. Everyone is welcome to join us. All walks are free, or you can choose to pay for AVA credit stamps. Find out more about the AVA at or

Just show up and be ready to walk at the posted time. We need to register to each walk at the start location, so allow for that. It's important to join the group. Otherwise, you won't get reminders or changes and cancellations.

There are Wednesday morning walks every Wednesday. Wintertime you'll see some cancellations that are weather dependent. You may also see some Thursdays -- late afternoons into evening as days grow longer. There will be weekend walks with a group walk start time when the Puyallup volkssport club -- Daffodil Valley Volkssport Association is putting on a traditional, staffed event.

Most all walks are dog friendly (with leash and cleanup, of course,) unless it's through a wildlife area. We'll say in the directions.

If you love to walk, you'll love to walk with us.
