What we're about

We are a group of friendly people doing weekly 10k (6.2 mile) walks all around the south sound. We walk for fitness, so these are not strolls. Expect to finish walks within 2 1/2 hours, depending on stops. All walks are American Volkssport Association (AVA) sanctioned. Everyone is welcome to join us. All walks are free, or you can choose to pay for AVA credit stamps. Find out more about the Washington State Assocation at www.esva.online or the AVA at www.ava.org.

Just show up and be ready to walk at the posted time. We need to register to each walk at the start location, so allow for that. It's important to join the group. Otherwise, you won't get reminders or changes and cancellations.

There are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday walks every. Wintertime you'll see some cancellations that are weather dependent. You may also see some Tuesday -- late afternoons into evening as days grow longer. There will be weekend walks with a group walk start time when the one of our clubs is putting on a traditional, staffed event.

Most all walks are dog friendly (with leash and cleanup, of course,) unless it's through a wildlife area. We'll say in the directions.

If you love to walk, you'll love to walk with us.

Walk the Puyallup Riverwalk Trail 6K/8K

Needs a location

Every Monday morning at 9:30 am we'll walk down the Puyallup Riverwalk Trail. Come early so that you will be ready to walk at 9:30 am. This is a volkssport event but we will only be walking a 6K or an 8K part of the route. Everyone is welcome to walk at their own pace. We'll alternate directions to walk each week. One week we walk 6K east and the next week we walk 8K west. This is an out-and-back route.

See the feral cats along the west part of the trail, spot carved bears up some trees, enjoy the Puyallup River, and the great tree carving at Veterans Park. The east route is quieter and also along the river.

Please park along the street as much as possible. We'll meet in the restaurant's back parking lot. Restrooms inside. Come prepared for the weather and walking. This walk is sponsored by the Riverwalk Committee of the Foothills Trail Coalition and Daffodil Valley Volkssport Assn.

Everyone must register before the walk. The club has costs to put on these walks so we ask for a donation. IVV/AVA credit is available at the customary fee.

Monday afternoon small group walk around Olympia

Needs a location

Come walk with us! Please arrive early to register, use the restroom, and get a parking pass, as the walk leaves promptly at 2 pm. To protect ourselves and others, we need to wear masks, and socially distance. Walk 10K (6.2 miles) (and a shorter distance is often available) every Monday (get a parking pass at registration). The walk leader varies the route from week to week. The route varies and the difficulty varies from (paved surfaces and flat (1A) to moderately rough trails with steep hills (3B).

There are many regular walkers who don't use Meetup, so expect between seven and 15 people despite few Meetup RSVPs. This walk is hosted by the Capitol Volkssport Club. Everyone is welcome, but everyone must sign the waiver to participate.

The club has costs to put on these walks, so we ask for a donation of at least $2 per person. IVV/AVA credit is available at the customary fee. We would be happy to explain to you what that means. Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome (just not in Thriftway), but this walk is not always suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.

Tuesday evening walk around downtown Olympia: Capitol Lake & Capitol Campus

Come walk with us along Capitol Lake, through the capitol campus, downtown Olympia, Farmer's Market (may be closed), and Percival Landing Park. This is a 10K (6.2 mile) walk, mostly on pavement with some elevation changes (it goes up the switchback gravel path to the capitol campus). The pace aims to finish in two to two and one-half hours. A shorter 5K (3.1 mile) option is available.

Please arrive early to allow time to register as the walk leaves promptly at 6 pm. Masks optional when registering and where ever social distancing can't be maintained. Get a parking pass for Bayview parking lot in registration binder. This walk is hosted by the Capitol Volkssport Club. Everyone is welcome, but everyone must sign the waiver to participate. No fee is required to walk, however we do have costs and appreciate donations. For those seeking Volkssport credit, IVV/AVA credit is available at the customary fee. We would be happy to explain to you what that means.

Steilacoom Historic Town 5K & 10K Walk

Needs a location

Steilacoom was the first incorporated town in Washington. People there intend to keep it's small town atmosphere. Walk through town to the ferry terminal that goes to McNeil and Anderson Islands. Walk is on city sidewalks and two short trails through the historic town of Steilacoom, site of the first Territorial Jail, library and Protestant Church north of the Columbia River. Steilacoom was the original capital of Washington State. The Catholic Mission has been in continual use since 1867. Pass ferry dock and the old Steilacoom Railroad Station (no-longer used for passenger service). Views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains and various islands served by the ferry.

This is volkssport year-round event Y0635. This route is rated 2B which means there are some hills. Pets are welcome, but not in buildings. Leash and cleanup, please.

Arrive early as the walk starts promptly at 10 am.
Everyone must register before the walk. IVV credit is $3.00. Guests are always welcome and donations to support volkssporting are appreciated.
