What we're about

We're an active and friendly Humanism group in London, UK. Our well attended monthly humanist gatherings normally take place on the first Tuesday of each month, in The Vestry, Richmond, South West London. As well as these main meetings, we have plenty of other interesting activities too. We're a Partner of Humanists UK.

To attend meetings you don't have to join or become a member. You're especially welcome if you think you may in fact already be a humanist and want to find out more.

There's no need to use the RSVP button here on Meetup - just come along!

The SWLH Reading Group normally meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 10.30am at Masaniello, 22 Church Street, Twickenham TW1 3NJ. During the current crisis, it meets via Zoom. "Not-the-Christmas Party" Quiz

Online event

We can't hold our normal Christmas Party this year, so we thought we would have a not-altogether-serious Zoom quiz instead. Please reserve your place as soon as you can, so we know roughly how many people plan to come along. To do that, click https://swlhumanists.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c9f319a12e9553cb29dad449b&id=39880aff64&e=43fa228cc1. We should have enough people to do it in teams, so no-one will be on their own.

Are "deliberative assemblies" the future? - with Ieva Cesnulaityte (OECD)

Ireland made two major decisions - on same sex marriage, and abortion - based on the work of "citizens assemblies" of ordinary people selected to be roughly representative of the population - a major new tool in the democratic process. In 2020, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) released a report based on a study of nearly 300 such "deliberative assemblies" worldwide since the 1980s. Ieva Cesnulaityte will share what they found. For security purposes, only people on our main email list will receive the dial-in details. If you'd like to join the list please email Jeremy at [masked].
