What we're about

Meet others interested in meditation near you! Learn how to meditate or deepen your current meditation practice. Our weekly meetings are on a drop in basis and we have a really nice group of people attending regularly. Please check out our message board (https://www.meetup.com/Sparta-Meditation-Group/messages/boards/) to see our meditation topics in previous weeks.

A trademark of the meditations we emphasize is the ease in which they can be used both “on the cushion” and in our daily lives. Each meeting will include practical, guided meditation, and a talk on how to reduce stress and other problems encountered in daily life and how to increase mental and physical well-being. There will also be plenty of time to discuss the ideas presented.

Although the meditations and talks are based on Kadampa Buddhist philosophy, you don't need to be a Buddhist to enjoy this group. Kadampa Buddhism stresses a spiritual path of individual transformation and to look within ourselves for the inner peace and happiness we seek. Everyone is welcome!

These group meetings are based out of Kadampa Meditation Center New York, located in Glen Spey, NY. For more information visit http://www.kadampanewyork.org

We hope to meet you soon!

Buddhist Meditation Class - (May Series: Dealing with Difficult Emotions)

May Series: Dealing with Difficult Emotions

Overwhelmed by your feelings? Buddhist psychology offers a time-tested, powerful and healthy approach to dealing with painful, challenging emotions. Each week, we will apply these methods to states like craving, anger, and self-hatred. First, we need to recognize them, learn how they work, and accept ourselves for where we are. Next, we can disempower them using special meditations. Finally, we can envision and even experience a state of total freedom and release, having transcended these difficult emotions.

Price: $10 per person (cash and card accepted at the door).
Everyone welcome!

The class dates and topics for this series are as follows:

May 2 - The Confidence to Change
May 9 - Craving, Desire, and Attachment
May 16 - Dealing with Unhappiness
May 23 - How to Worry Less
May 30 - TBD
