What we're about

Speculative Futures is an international community of meetups focused on Speculative & Critical Design, Design Fiction, Futurism, and Strategy & Foresight.
This is a group for those interested in using design and visual approaches as a vehicle to speculate about potential or alternate futures. We host speakers — practitioners, teachers, students, and other professionals — who will be talking about their work or methods related to speculating about the future. Every event will focus on a subtopic such as the future of mobility, the future of work or the future of food – always with a strong focus on society and culture. The intention of this meetup is to build a community of curious professionals from various disciplines and to set the ground for discussions and gathering of visionary ideas.

Speculative Futures is organized in city chapters around the world. The Stuttgart Chapter of Speculative Futures is hosted by Prof. Benedikt Groß, Prof. Julia Kühne, and Dr. Eileen Mandir.
It will take place every 3-4 month.

Female Biophilia: Crossing Boundaries

Theater Rampe

€3.00

We are happy to announce the third edition of Speculative Futures: Stuttgart which will take place in the BAR RAKETE of Theater Rampe. Giulia Tomasello, Female Biophilia: Crossing Boundaries As part of the "Speculative Futures" series, this time we will deal with the question: What will happen if Biotechnology will become part of our daily life and primary need? We will discuss the Technology Revolution as a possible practice for self-care, considering science and technological advancements as a guiding vision to educate personal healthcare. Giulia Tomasello will present her project „Future Flora" in this context. Women’s bodies are considered sacred in society. Female sexual pleasure and fertility are the only issues that matter. None of the uniquely female experiences - the development of female sex organs, menstruation, pregnancy, menopause - have a meaning in themselves. The meaning depends on the extent to which a woman sees herself as a free subject rather than as the object of society’s gaze. Breaking Female Taboos and provoking conversations, the project Future Flora aims to celebrate our body’s microbiome, opening the possibility to wear microorganisms in the future and to embrace them as part of our natural well-being. Following Biohacking and DIY procedures, merging biology with health-tech, the female becomes a citizen scientist. Taking care of her own health, she establishes a first relation with her body and what is part of her living surroundings. Our clothes and accessories become the ecosystem that balances our Skin Microflora. ————————————————— Giulia Tomasello is a designer innovating in women’s healthcare combining biotechnology and interactive wearables. Winner of Re-FREAM and STARTS Prize both awarded from EU Horizon 2020 for her projects Alma and Future Flora. By designing alternative scenarios and acting as creative thinker, Giulia questions our notions of wellbeing to develop innovative tools in the intersection of medical and social sciences. Coded Bodies is her teaching platform designed to learn the basics of soft wearables and the exploration of biological textiles. She is currently visiting lecturer at Politecnico of Milano. gitomasello.com / codedbodies.com ————————————————— Da wir wieder einen internationalen Gast und damit höhere Auslagen haben, bitten wir dieses Mal um 3 € Eintritt, dieser wird in bar an der Abendkasse fällig.
