The thing about meditation is: You become more and more you. (David Lynch) WELCOME everyone to our meditation space on Sundays 5.30 to 7pm at the Yoga & Qigong School of Sumner (http://www.yogaqigong.co.nz/home.html), 42 Nayland Street, Sumner (across Supermarket) It is free, koha (donation) appreciated. The price above is a suggestion, in case you can support the group to help cover the costs for hire & heating of the hall. Everyone welcome, no matter whether it is your first meditation or you have done meditation before. It is an open space for 90 minutes for you to sit as long as you like, and come and go as you please. Bolsters, blankets and chairs from the yoga school are available for use. You are welcome to bring your own items, if you like. You can sit or lie down, please choose whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Falling asleep is alright too and a good sign of deep relaxation :) even the Dalai Lama has said that sleep is a form of meditation. Short guided meditations are available on CD, which are played at 5.30 pm and 6 pm. The guided meditations offer basic instructions about how to sit and about breathing. Each is about 15 minutes in duration, with 15 minutes of Tibetan Bell sounds in-between to help with silent meditation. During the second 45 minutes we sit in silence with the beautiful Tibetan Bell sounds in the background. The guided meditations are spoken by Russell Delman and we have got his consent for using them for our group (www.russelldelman.com). There is no further affiliation with Russell Delman and his teachings. He is simply offering the purest and most basic guided meditations I could find, presenting them with a pleasant voice to listen to. The Yoga & Qigong School of Sumner (http://www.yogaqigong.co.nz/home.html) is a beautiful place with good energy and a long yoga tradition for over 25 years. We enjoy this special space with its enhancing effects on meditation and doing it together! The Sumner Meditation Group was started in 2012 and has seen many people attending, for whom meditation was a first experience. If you are interested in Yoga, we also offer a Yoga session prior to meditation from 4 - 5.15 pm. Yoga is a perfect preparation for meditation. What we're about

Welcome everyone to our meditation space on Sundays 5.30 to 7pm at the Yoga & Qigong School of Sumner (http://www.yogaqigong.co.nz), 42 Nayland Street, Sumner (across Supermarket), Christchurch, New Zealand.

No matter whether it is your first meditation or you have done meditation before, it is an open space for 90 minutes for you to sit as long as you like, and come and go as you please.

I have started this group in 2012, because I couldn't find a meditation group in Christchurch which was not affiliated to some sort of religion or certain philosophy, so our group is just about meditation and everybody can to do it their own way. The introductions or guided meditations we play from CD during the first 45 minutes are there to help people, who haven't done meditation before and convey the basics of how to meditate and what it is about in a neutral way.

We offer 2 introductions (guided meditations) from CD which we play at 5.30 pm and 6 pm for people who are new to meditation or simply request it. These audios are basic introductions spoken by Russel Delman (We have Russel's consent for the usage. There are no further affiliations with his teachings). The guided meditations include instructions about posture and breathing, they are 15 mins in duration each with a 15 min break inbetween, in which Tibetan Bell sounds are played to help with silent meditation.

You are also welcome to lie down and just relax :) or change your posture anytime you feel like it. We also have some cards there, 'Inner peace cards' or 'Heart cards', which offer either a word or a theme to meditate on, if you wish.

For the second 45 minutes we just sit in silence with the beautiful Tibetan Bell sounds in the background.

Bolsters, blankets and chairs from the yoga school are available for use. You are welcome to bring your own items, if you like.

Basically it is free to attend - a koha/donation is much appreciated though - if you can, please support us with $5 per session to help cover the costs for hire & heating of the hall ($120 per month).

If it is your first meditation ever, then, if possible, please come a little earlier that we can show you some sitting options :)

And in case you are interested in Yoga, we also offer a Yoga session prior to meditation from 4 - 5.15 pm. Yoga is a perfect preparation for meditation.
