Glow worms inside a canyon and waterfalls
Hosted by Sydney Snorkelling Meetup Group
Details
An adventure with glow worms, canyons and swimming in waterfalls.
2pm - Meet at car park at Minnehaha Reserve Car park

We'll go down to have a late lunch or picnic at the waterfalls, you can have a swim under the waterfalls. If youre adventurous theres a track i havent explored that goes down the river, with a possibility of another waterfall.
Bring food/snacks, swimmers, towel
After the waterfalls, we'll head to Neats Glen Car Park
https://goo.gl/maps/KiSm9v6gT9q. This is the start of the canyon part. The walk is about 1 - 1.5hrs. There are 2 short swimming sections ( a few minutes worth) and its cold. Last time we just stripped down to undies to swim across and dress again as we past the water sections. If you like, you can wear a wetsuit for the swim and the whole canyon part. If you dont plan to wear a wetsuit, bring warm clothes for inside the canyon when the glow worms appears. Bring a towel for after the swims, a dry bag for the swimming sections. A head torch so we can hike, best its a head torch so your hands are free to scramble and keep balance. Bring change of clothes after canyon part as you may get wet as theres a few water sections that either waist or knee deep.
After the hike back to car park, a few of us are camping out to enjoy the sunrise and milky way in the Blue Mountains. Also theres no timings as its based on how we feel but its not rushed at all. We will be camping right outside the trail (i.e right next to the car) we plan to hike to in the morning to see the sunrise. Car park is not listed on Google maps but this is the link https://goo.gl/maps/PVh6mda54DK2. If not, search Hanging Rock https://goo.gl/maps/CMTLBqUs5hA2.
Bring lunch, dinner and breakfast and soup/hot drink for sunrise
Theres a possible trip to an abandoned mining tunnel on Sunday.

THIS TRIP REQUIRES INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OF HIKING EXPERIENCE
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We are walking off the track, over slippery rocks and through a river bed at night. There is a big descent and ascent. Ideal if you have a good sense of balance on slippery rocks. There are sections where water levels are waist deep but most sections are knee deep. Note: Canyon water is colder than the ocean.
Sorry but if you're absolute beginner hiker, i don't recommend this trip for your safety.

TO JOIN THIS TRIP, YOU NEED
- A sense of adventure
- Intermediate hiking experience or general fitness as we are hiking down into the canyon and then out of it at night.
- Good sense of balance as it's slippery, ie. mossy rocks and we are going off the track for a section
- Enjoy cold water, theres a short water section we need to cross. A wetsuit is overkill for a few minutes. Last time i stripped down and swam across.
- Dry bag for the short swim mentioned above
- Warm clothes for the canyon as its a wind tunnel
- Change of clothes after the wet section
====================================
Since its out of Sydney in the Blue Mountains, i recommend people car pooling (arrange in the comments below) as its better for the environment, less traffic and you connect with your fellow snorkellers. Also fewer cars makes it easier to coordinate our trip and i wont get numerous calls of where are you guys?
PLEASE NOTE: It's easier for me if you join the entire trip from start to finish because finding people throughout the trip is time consuming and I'm not always checking meetup as I'm busy with the day or there is no reception.
