What we're about

The amount of software professionals doubles every five years. That means that half of us are with less than five years of experience. It’s time to take Agile Finland community members back to technical roots by kicking off a new pod (self-organized unit) on tech excellence. This group remembers the new without forgetting the seasoned ones.

Spies, mocks, stubs of fakes?

Ambientia

Spies, mocks, stubs or fakes? What are the differences of them? Why is there so many different names for seemingly same sort of test double (yet another magic name)? In this workshop, we practice the use of different kinds of test doubles while unit testing code. The code will be written in outside-in TDD fashion, where test doubles can be used to help design / sketch out collaborators. This is a first step in a sequence of workshops where the aim is to understand when and how mocks/stubs/fakes could be used, not to make the tests brittle due to extensive mocking. Come prepared with the kata-bootstraps repository (https://github.com/swkBerlin/kata-bootstraps) cloned and having executed your first red test on your favorite language (JS is a very good choice, btw). btw: I reserve 3 slots for 'minorities in IT' - if you find yourself in waiting list while identify yourself into minority in IT, email to [masked] and I'll reserve a slot for you. The 3 slots will be 3 days before the event. *Schedule* 16:30 Doors open & food 17:00-19:00 Hands-on coding workshop - Introductions to different test doubles - Introduction to programming kata, find pairs - Programming, practicing ** Venue ** The meetup will be at the Ambientia office, Vuorikatu 16 A, 5th floor.

Magic Tricks of Unit Testing (Turku)

Tykistökatu 4

Tech Excellence Meetup goes Turku! Unit testing is not magic. There are very simple rules for testing any unit, thus it might look like magic. In this hands-on programming workshop Aki Salmi from Ambientia will demystify what it means to unit test! Come prepared with the kata-bootstraps repository (https://github.com/swkBerlin/kata-bootstraps) cloned and having executed your first red test on your favorite language (JS is a very good choice, btw). In the beginning we'll be introduced a 2-by-3 matrix for 6 different kinds of units and we will fill the matrix with the magic tricks for each slot. During the meetup, folks will form pairs to do pair programming on a specific kata and practice the art of unit testing. After the meetup, you've been introduced how you can test any kind of unit - a truly magnificient super power. We're creating an experiment on how to invite more diversity to the Tech Excellence meetups by following: There will be total of 16 spots, namely 13 for the fastest and 3 for 'minorities in IT'. If you find yourself in waiting list while identifying yourself into minority, email to [masked] and I'll reserve a slot for you. The 3 slots will be opened 3 days before the event. Schedule 13:30 Coffee at Werstas coffee lounge 14:00-16:00 Hands-on coding workshop - Introductions and intro into unit testing matrix (10min) - Introduction to programming kata, find pairs - Programming, practicing Venue The meetup will be at the Werstas Turku (https://werstasturku.fi/fi) Host The event will be hosted and sponsored by Ambientia.
