OpenXC Public Kickoff Weekend

Do you love cars and miss the days when you could easily tinker with them on the weekends? Are you a software or hardware hacker who wants to interface more easily with your vehicle?

If so, read on ...

Ford’s OpenXC platform is the first open source automotive platform that allows drivers to develop apps for their automobiles. More precisely, OpenXC connects to a car through the OBD-II data port, and with a system of open source hardware and software, it draws and descrambles rich sensor data from the car’s digital core. For the very first time, you can pull data out of the awesome array of sensors and computers built into your vehicle!

Think of the huge amount of data ready to be harnessed from your automobile’s sensors: super-precise rate of speed, steering wheel angle, accelerator pedal position, engine torque ...the list goes on. With OpenXC, you can listen to the information coming off the car's main computer and develop hardware modules and software apps to interface with the vehicle. OpenXC is a powerful new way to speak your car’s language.

LIMITED ENROLLMENT. The OpenXC program starts the night of April 26 and runs all day April 27, 2013.

I would love to partner up with someone that knows coding. I'm guessing the OpenXC will use some form of Java. Let me know if you're interested.

Martin, I'll be there with coding background, not sure if I'll know the right language, but happy to help.

Brian, I look forward to meeting you and learning about OpenXC. I especially want to understand the output restrictions of this. Is everthing within the Android tablet or can it interact differently with the driver, such as the cars speakers or existing nav screen, for example.
