Show your community what you're making! "Concepts and Coffee" happens at TechShop Detroit the second Saturday of every month. Bring in a project for Show and Tell and talk shop with other members of the maker community. Then take part in an open mic "town hall" discussion and Q&A. We welcome both members and non-members.
Ara Thorose – Don’t be so Thorose!
Ara Levon Thorose is a Los Angeles born, Detroit based multi-media artist/designer and a graduate student in the 3D Design department at Cranbrook Academy of Art. He practices making through woodworking, knitting, leatherworking, and whichever medium he needs. This month, he will tell us about his thought process, design practice, and current projects.
Karianne Gottschalk – Masquerade - The Art of Leather Masks:
Karianne is a maker without limitations. She crafts / makes / hacks with whatever is at her disposal. Wood? Why not? Bones? Yes please! Leather? Drool!!! Karianne will primarily talk about her experience as a leather worker, mask maker, and costumer. She will show you how she stretches the limitations of skin, and uses it to shape her ideas.
Advanced Class by TechShop Detroit Facilities Manager, Shawn Simone3D Printing at TechShop: The Next GenerationFor some time we have all been frustrated with the performance of the plastic extrusion type 3D printers that we had on the shop floor for Member use. That is why we have moved on to a new type of desktop stereolithography (SLA) machine called the Form 1+. In this Advanced Class, presented by TechShop Detroit Facilities Manager Shawn Simone, we will tell you what went wrong with our old 3D printers, why we have chosen to move on to this new technology, and what you can expect moving forward with our new equipment.
Get to know your maker-neighbors -- there's no telling what cool things it could lead to!
This is a free event hosted by TechShop Detroit and is not affiliated with any other groups or companies. Visitors to the shop must sign waivers to enter the shop. Questions? Call (313) 583-3831.
