Weekend Event!

From: Jim W.

Greetings, Texpats!

At the last event, some of you expressed a desire to see some events take place on weekends, and this weekend, your wish is granted! Long-time residents of NYC and newbies alike are taking an indoor walking tour of some of the great sites of New York City, like Radio City Music Hall, Grand Central Station, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and more!

For long-timers, it's a chance to slow down and take a good, close look at the great historical sites we've been hustling past for years. For the recent arrival, it's a great way to become acquainted with your new, adopted city. And finally, for those of you who work later than most during the week, or work outside of Manhattan, it's simply an opportunity to join your fellow Texpats without having to rush.

The event is at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, click on this link for details, and to RSVP.

Speaking of "RSVPs", that's as good a segue as we can get to talk about something very important. Some Texpats events take place in bars, where we carve out a space for ourselves and hang out, come what may. Other events, however - like our recent Evening at the Rubin and the upcoming Indoor Walking Tour - are more coordinated, and require an accurate head count. We've harped on this a little bit in the past, but it looks as though we're not done harping just yet. Members who RSVP "yes" but end up as no-shows put your humble leadership in a bind, because we create expectations with our host venues that end up not being met.

Not to be a downer, but we're starting to track the no-shows. Going forward, career offenders are going to get a private e-mail on the subject first, and if that doesn't do the trick... well, no need to get harsh on a Monday morning, but y'all get the idea. So please, do us all a favor: if you RSVP "yes" to an event, but end up not being able to come after all, take a moment to change it to "no". Or, if you're thinking "maybe", then don't RSVP one way or another until you know for sure.

Have a great week! We look forward to seeing you this Thursday at the Rodeo Bar, and this Saturday for the walking tour!
