Mindfulness & Insight Meditation (Vipassana)
Insight Meditation, also known as Vipassana, is a simple and time-tested mindfulness practice that begins with paying attention to the breath. While the practice itself is straightforward, it’s not always easy to sustain on our own. Practicing with a supportive group and an experienced teacher can make a real difference—especially when challenges arise.
At the heart of Insight Meditation is mindfulness: the ability to notice our moment-to-moment experience with clarity, balance, and kindness. This practice can help calm the mind, reduce stress, and bring more ease to daily life. Over time, it also supports deeper understanding, emotional resilience, and a natural growth of compassion.
### Basics of Mindfulness (Introductory Course)
This introductory course offers a clear, step-by-step introduction to mindfulness and insight meditation. Instruction is given sequentially, beginning with awareness of the breath and gradually expanding to include the body, emotions, thoughts, and everyday experience.
This class is well suited for:
- people who are new to meditation
- those returning to practice after time away
- experienced meditators who want to refresh the foundations
Participants will learn how to:
- develop a healthier relationship with thoughts
- find greater balance with emotions
- become more attuned to body and mind
- bring mindfulness into daily life
Classes are relaxed, supportive, and interactive, with guided meditations and time for questions. Participants receive simple at-home practice guidance to support continuity between sessions.
### Intermediate Mindfulness (Continuing Course)
The intermediate course builds on foundational mindfulness skills, helping meditation become a more reliable refuge and a source of insight in daily life. Teaching explores core themes from the mindfulness tradition—such as awareness of body and mind, patterns of reactivity, and qualities that support well-being and wisdom—presented in a practical, accessible way.
Classes include guided meditation, group discussion, and reflection, with encouragement to deepen daily practice. Optional supports may include journaling, small-group sharing, and a half-day retreat.
This course is appropriate for those who have completed the Basics of Mindfulness, the Eightfold Path, or a similar mindfulness course. If you’re unsure whether this class is a good fit, you’re welcome to check in with Doug.
