Great way to experience some winter sailing - this is one of the lower cost ways to enjoy some serious cruising sailing on the Solent in a relaxed and friendly environment.
No previous experience necessary - we'll be 6 or 7 on a fully equipped Bavaria 38 sailing yacht with 3 cabins and 8 berths. The plan is to set off from Haslar Marina in Gosport and get some fabulous sailing in around the Isle of Wight and the Solent. Subject to weather, tides and crew we will explore such places as Cowes, Yarmouth, the Needles, Lymington or even Poole as well as other places in and around the south coast.
Gosport is easy to get to by train (every half hour from Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour) or there is free parking at the marina. Plus – I will likely be driving down from London so happy to give you a lift down.

The boat: (2010 Baviaria 38) based in Gosport MCA Cat2 coded with full safety equipment including life jackets, life raft, DSC radio, as required for coding. The boat also benefits from central heating.

An ideal itinerary would be
Friday at 20:30 meet at the boat collect the shopping and have dinner
Sat and Sun - sail in the day and early evening spending the night in either Lymington or Yarmouth (Isle of Wight) and return to Gosport by 15:30
Costs - £110 for the weekend (or £98 for LSC members) plus share of food, fuel and marina costs (shouldn't come to more than £20 max).
Checklist of things to bring:
• Suitcase: Space is limited on the boat so bring soft bags only
• Clothing: warm and waterproof, hat sailing gloves (don’t forget sun cream as well).
• Bedding: You will need a pillow case and sleeping bag (or duvet and sheets); there are pillows on board (you can bring your own as well)
• Towel
• Shoes: soft non-marking shoes only please (or sailing boots).
• Food and drink: I will do a shop before the trip including cereals, eggs and bacon, pasta, chocolate, bread, butter, tea, coffee, water etc. Let me know if there is you can’t eat/live without
• Health: let me know if you have any health issues! Think of bringing sea-sickness pills if you are affected.
*NB sailing in ski gear is not recommended!
