The STDIO Game Jam is a weekend-long hackathon to create a new generation of simple, fun games for new programmers. These games use old-school "standard io" text-streams for input and output. What they lack in fancy graphics, they make up for in readable source code that is accessible to beginners. Every language and operating system supports stdio text, so running these games isn't hindered by platform differences or frustrating framework installation processes.
The hackathon takes place at Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment, Oakland's video game museum. But people from around the world can also participate online.
This event is open to folks of all programming skill levels and non-coders with game design ideas.
Runs on Sat, Aug 19 from 6pm to midnight, then continues Sun, Aug 20 from 10am to 7pm.
