What we're about

The River Connection Paddler group is for kayakers looking for greater performance (and fun) from their time on the water.

Outings can be Instruction/Performance related or casual getaways. The tenor is dictated by the group dynamics.

The River Connection is equipped by our year round retail store The River Connection, Inc. carrying P&H, Valley, North Shore and Venture kayaks, paddles by Werner, Mitchell and Saltwood, gear and garb by Kokatat, Astral Designs, Stohlquist, Thule, Marco Kayak Saddles.

The River Connection programs are most often launched from our own private Boathouse/Harbor at 30 River Road, Hyde Park, NY at the Hyde Park Landing. This is where we house our Fleet of Demo/Instructional Kayaks and equipment. We also feature other programs elsewhere on the Hudson River as well as the Long Island Sound.

Waves, longboat kayak surf and play.

Quonochontaug Pond

Not Marshall in the photo. This surf session brought to you in cooperation with Copernicus and Newton. Tidal bore surfing creates a long but relatively narrow wave training extending to the LI sound. This is not an instructional session per se as Marshall is going, by one means or another, to play If you don’t know how to execute an Eskimo Roll (non-pc I know), strongly consider how well you swim while being flushed away from shore waiting for another kayaker to render assistance. Speaking of, if you cannot render assistance in 3’-6’ waves do not attend. Remember you are only 2’ tall seated in a kayak. With your pfd are you a strong swimmer. If in doubt, do not attend. Whitewater helmet is mandatory. Now the gear: Bullheaded kayak 15’+ PFD, Paddle, backup Paddle, paddle float, bilge pump, sponge Whitewater Helmet Appropriate clothing for getting wet in the summer Change of clothes Food like substances Water, drinks of your choice (no alcohol) Sun protection as you see fit. Rain does not cancel. Organizer will make weather determination of go/no-go 30 hours prior to event.
