Django: Zero to Hero & GIS, Django, Data Science and Farming

Talk #1: Django Zero to Hero: my story on building respond/react to become a fullstack dev, and how meetups helped me get there

I've been some form of a full time web developer for 10 years this coming January. Along the way, I've reinvented my career many times through 3 important things: Not being afraid of new technology, setting realistic and achievable goals on how to become competent in a new stack, how building a real app is the best way to get there. I hope to use this time to explain my path and how to graduate from a junior dev to a senior dev or a frontend dev to a fullstack dev, without dragging yourself down with an overwhelming amount of learning resources. I'll deconstruct my app respond/react from a technical standpoint to show the struggles and difficulties along the way, and how the exposure gained in numerous meetups helped me along the way.

Talk #2: GIS, Django, Data Science and Farming

How do you make a map work with PostGis and Django? How do you balance front-end and backend needs to ensure performance and simplicity for a mapping application? Just how bad are user shape files? I’ll explore these and other topics related to applying data science to help farmers.

Stan Knutson's Bio:

Stan is passionate about using software to make the world a better place. He leads the software team at PowWow Energy, where we are helping farmers grow more with less. He was formerly Chief Architect for an SAP big data product; Director of Technology at Dun & Bradstreet, and first employee at Purisma. M.S. Mech. Eng., and B.S. Computer Science, MIT.
