What we're about

Welcome, fellow travellers to...

https://a248.e.akamai.net/secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/3/7/e/1/600_459554305.jpeg

A small oasis for Geeks to meet up and make friends with others who share similar geeky interests. Now if you’ve gotten this far and still haven’t clicked the join button yet, then that might be because you have no idea what a ‘Geek’ is exactly, well let me explain…

You see a Geek is an expert, enthusiast or a person obsessed with a hobby or intellectual pursuit mostly aimed at popular culture (Thanks, Wikipedia). However, there is more to Geeks than meets the eye. You see to me a Geek is a creative genius bordering on insanity and the only way to fend off the madness is by going to see the next Marvel movie or playing copious amounts of video games or even just a quiet night in pretending to be an Elf from Neverwinter.

But because of these interests, we tend to stay indoors a lot as we play Overwatch while watching Game of Thrones that we don’t have the time to venture out into the real world and meet up with people that might want to do the same stuff we do—and that's where we come in.

'The Social Geek' has been designed to help Geeks find new friends to play Overwatch while watching Game of thrones, through the help of social and single oriented events. These events will be marked as (SOCIAL) or (SINGLE) so people will know the aim of these events, such as-

• Drinks

• Lunch/Dinner events

• Movie events

• Board game events

• Video game events

• Book/TV Show/Anime/Comics/Cake clubs

• Conventions

Or just random catch ups to discuss favourite characters THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT… I love you David Tennant TT_TT

Well I’ve written too much, but in saying that all are welcome, whether you can list the entire cast of the Justice League, or know one or two DC Superheroes, or have no idea what DC even stands for, as long as you want to meet up with a bunch of friendly weirdos than click join ^_^

Games Night Evolution

Cakes and Ladders

Update: If you are late or lost, text/call me at[masked] and i'll try to help you out. Also here are the randomly assigned groups for the night, but don't worry if you forget who you're with they will most likely change on the night due to no-shows and people being late. Groups 1.Raziq - Neil Moraes, Hamid, Gary Mok, Mia Wisniewski +1, Keiko Shishimato, Ashish Kundalkar, Ali Janoos, Nicolette Lewer 2.Brendon - Michelle +1, Sabrina, Leroy Paul-Andrews, Matt Rivers, Danielle 3.Sara - Helen Jarvis +1, Tarn Drylie, Nick, Matthew Reece, Jeremy Markman(Substitute Rulemaster) 4.Chris V. Dass - Nick Taylor, Kitty, Michael Chung, Ash, Miriam Albadrawi 5.Maura - Sophia Yuan, Jericho, Chris Aaron, Rob Nikiel 6.Jackson Coley - Mai Zhou, Elena Kuramaeva, Ryan, Michelle 7.Jonny - Kelvin Canty, Jenn Kane +1, Eloïse 8.Seb - Alex Goldstein, Jerome, Jamie, Athena Rhodes (Substitute Rulemaster) Games Night has been one of my most popular meetups and I can’t thank you guys enough for your continuous attendance and support for my, most of the time, unorganized event… I mean I don’t even know why you guys still show up? Anyway, believe it or not, I’m always making strides to improve Games Night, and I think I’ve found a new way to organize events where new players won’t get overwhelmed by the various games, while the more experienced players will get a chance to play more rule heavy games. So when you join you will be asked a question on your level of experience with boardgames on a scale of one to five. 1 – Complete Noob, haven’t even touched a die before. 2 – Played a few games like Scrabble and Monopoly, does that count? 3 – I know some games, but only played them once or twice. 4 – An experienced gamer, but I don’t think I can actually teach the games to others. 5 – Expert, wouldn’t mind teaching others how to play a couple of games. Then on the night, I will put you into groups based on your level of experience, which will be hosted by a random Rulemaster/Level 5 Gamer. So please arrive at Cakes and Ladders by 7:15, because if you are late you will have to find your own fun. I started these events to meet new people and hopefully make some new friends along the way, but I’ve noticed that I can’t do that if I’m constantly running around checking on others. So now it’s time for some tough love. Hope this works, I am making this stuff up as I go along ^_^ Cheers, Chris P.S: Cakes and Ladders charges $2.50 an hour to play.

Murder Mystery Dinner

Doolan Brothers Botany

DUE TO A LACK OF NUMBERS, EVENT IS POSTPONED TILL APRIL. DATE TBC SHORTLY! You and the other guests are gathered -- in the glare of the spotlights at Powars Oriental Gardens Theater for the premiere of Powar Film Studios' newest release, "Powar and Greede." A small, private party for the cast is being held in the Banquet Room adjoining the theatre, while outside, Hollywood's elite mills about, breathlessly anticipating the 8:30 curtain. Earlier today, W. Anton Powar appeared in the private garden of the theatre where, as a publicity stunt for the new film, the impression of his bare feet was made in concrete beside that of his former stare, Tatyana Eltale. After retiring to his private apartment at the conclusion of the ceremony, Powar was expected to join you and his other special guests for cocktails before the movie starts, but he's running curiously late... Because of assigning characters, this meetup is open to 4 males and 4 females. Characters are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Please say what character you would like to play in your RSVP. Make sure you check the current RSVPs to ensure the character you want to play is still available! I'll update the roles with *TAKEN* when I can but the first RSVP received with the character listed will get the role. Also please only RSVP if you know you can definitely be there and if you need to change your RSVP, please do so as soon as possible as we need all character roles filled. Thanks! 🙂 Dressing in character is strongly encouraged!! Think red carpet, Hollywood glamour. Female Characters Denise N. Dayer: a beautiful and talented young actress who has not received the deserved recognition yet. This recognition is expected soon. She is working as Producer's Assistant with the greatest directors at Powar Film Studios. Costume Suggestion: Evening gown, not too fancy. Heidi Voltaje: One of the newest stars at Powar, discovered by Mr. Powar himself. Film-goers loved her first, minor role in Powar's recent Lay of the Land. Costume Suggestion: Glittery and glamorous evening gown in a bright color, jewelry to match. Ivonde B. Alohne: a Swedish-born actress, also talented and beautiful. Discovered by Sel Lloyd in a cheap Italian production called War and Pizza. Now a glamorous Hollywood star. Costume Suggestion: Elegant and glamorous evening gown, jewelry, hair up in a bun with braids. *TAKEN* Tatyana "Tat" Eltale: a retired successful actress, now a syndicated gossip columnist, soon to have a radio show. When she quit acting to chagrin of Hollywood, she said, "I'm a gossip first and an actress second." Costume Suggestion: Glamorous evening gown; little, discrete notebook and pen. Male Characters Hackford Ryder: one of Hollywood's finest screenwriters. A down-to-earth guy, unspoiled by his stellar socioeconomic rise. Costume Suggestion: Tuxedo or tails, stack of papers marked "screenplay." Savoy R. Fayre: a favorite Hollywood leading man. Elegant and with a British accent. Became truly famous for playing the title role in The Butler, Diddit. Hunter, marksman and golfer. Costume Suggestion: Tuxedo or tails, golf clubs. Seldon "Sel" U. Lloyd: a preeminent director. Actors and actresses would give much to work with him. His films established the careers of Ivonde B. Alohne and Mallissa Ann Greede. Costume Suggestion: Tuxedo or tails, director's megaphone. Stuart Drydon: actor, handsome, tall and dark. Began as a stuntman, moved on to Westerns and co-starred with Malissa Ann Greede in Tequila Mickingbird. Costume Suggestion: Tuxedo or tails, cowboy hat, cowboy boots.
