What we're about

Who doesn’t like a good story? Come over and tell us a story! Enjoy an evening of great stories ranging from personal experiences, folklore, long excuses at work to ridiculous, outrageous tall tales.

We are the first Storytelling Toastmasters Club in the South Bay area. While we follow the Toastmasters format, we focus on stories. Our group has some experienced speakers and storytellers, some who have developed their skills over time and some who have just started! So no experience required to join - just show up and see how it goes for you.

Currently all our meetings are virtual Zoom meetings. We typically have 12 - 15 members and guests at each virtual meeting. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month. Our host usually kicks off the Zoom meeting at 6:40 pm, so please log into the meeting by 6:45 pm. That way we can chit-chat a bit, test out our video and audio and prep everyone with the agenda. The call to order is at 7 pm and meeting adjourns at 8:30 pm.

(Prior to the COVID-19 global pandemic we met at Denny's, 1140 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose. When it is ok to meet in person again, we plan to return to that location for in-person meetings).

Fearlessly Give Effective Evaluations

Online event

$10.00

Giving feedback is scary, confusing, valuable, satisfying, challenging, altruistic, selfish, enlightening, and even frustrating. But here’s a fabulous secret. Once you learn to give an effective Toastmasters evaluation, that skill translates into giving feedback in all sorts of situations, including at work. Mark Stiving, DTM, was terrified of giving evaluations early in his toastmasters career. He studied, learned and practiced. Now it is his favorite thing to do because he knows he is helping other Toastmasters improve. Mark went on to create a process for developing an evaluation and a formula for delivering it. He is going to share these with us and we can apply it outside of Toastmasters, in our personal and professional lives. As a career, Mark coaches people about pricing, which means every day he is giving feedback to some client. He will help us understand how mastering the evaluation process will also help us master giving feedback outside of Toastmasters. The workshop is from 6:30 pm - 8 pm, with doors opening at 6:15pm. Free for club members and $10 for non-members. Non-members will be emailed the zoom link by 12pm Wed Sept 23, after they officially register with a PayPal payment. The link to pay is: www.PayPal.Me/sivstorytellers/10
