SPEEC Play Reading Series: "If We Must Live" by Frank Greenwood

Details

Join us for the second play reading of Theatre Makers' SPEEC Play Reading Series of plays with social, political, economic, and environmental change (SPEEC) themes.

"If We Must Live" by Frank Greenwood is a play based on the real-life events of Monroe, N. C., and Robert F. Williams, the ex-Marine who armed African-Americans there to confront the violence of the Ku Klux Klan. This play has probably not been performed since performances in Los Angeles just before the Watts riots. We researched to find a copy in an archive in Louisiana, so this is a rare opportunity to experience this play in honor of African-American History Month!

Please RSVP so we know how many scripts to print.

Trigger warning: the play depicts scenes of violence and racism and uses the "n" word.

Everyone is welcome to read a part. If you'd prefer a particular role, please let us know in response to the RSVP question.

The building is wheelchair-accessible. Please let us know in your RSVP if you are a wheelchair user so that we can choose tables in the accessible area.

We request a $5 donation to cover the cost of printing your script, so please let us know if you can pay that in response to the RSVP question. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Immediately after the play reading, we'll have our Theatre Makers Mixer social event at the same venue (separate RSVP at https://www.meetup.com/Theatre-Makers-Playwrights-Composers-Directors-Actors/events/268254236/).

Please reserve your seat, as only a limited number of reader spots are available. Kindly change your RSVP asap if your plans change.
