SPEEC Play Reading Series: "The Rhythm of Violence" and "No Matter Where I Go"

Details

Join us for the third play reading of Theatre Makers' SPEEC Play Reading Series of plays with social, political, economic, and environmental change (SPEEC) themes.

We have two plays this time:

  • "No Matter Where I Go" by Amal Khouri presents stories of queer women and a non-binary person who describe harassment they experience in Beirut and other issues around colonialism. It may be the first queer Arab play.

  • "The Rhythm of Violence" by Lewis Nkosi is set in Johannesburg in the early 1960s and handles the theme of race relations.

We will read these plays in honor of Women's History Month and on the International Day Against Police Brutality!

Please RSVP by Saturday midnight so we know how many scripts to print.

Trigger warning: the Nkosi play depicts scenes of violence and racism and uses the "n" word or similar South African words.

Everyone is welcome to read a part. If you'd prefer a particular role, please let us know in response to the RSVP question.

We request a $5 donation to cover the cost of printing your script, so please let us know if you can pay that in response to the RSVP question. No one turned away for lack of funds.

COVID-19 precautions: if you are sneezing or have cold/flu symptoms, please stay at home. We'll ask everyone to wash hands with soap upon entering.

Please reserve your seat, as only a limited number of reader spots are available. Kindly change your RSVP asap if your plans change.
