THE FEMALE OF THE SPECIES By Joanna Murray-Smith This is being put on by Lane Cove Theatre Company which is a community theatre company. Thirty years ago Margot Mason, pioneer of the 1970s Women's Liberation movement and fearless academic, wrote her ground-breaking work and numerous best-sellers followed. Now she has writer's block. Molly, an unannounced visitor and committed fan of Margot and her work, offers a potential solution - until Molly produces a gun and calmly informs Margot that she intends to kill her because she blames her for warping her mother's mind and ruining her life with her hit book The Cerebral Vagina. Joanna Murray-Smith's deliciously wicked comedy deftly walks the tightrope between satire and farce proving the female of the species is not only deadlier, but funnier than the male." This play was inspired by Germaine Greer's experience of being held captive in her countyr house in Essex in 2000. DEAD CAT BOUNCE By Mary Rachel Brown As if their 20-year age gap wasn’t trouble enough, Matilda’s fighting for space with Gabe’s long-time bedfellows: misery, booze and writerly angst. She’s not even convinced he’s over his ex-girlfriend and publisher Angela, who was hooked on picking up his pieces. If Gabe wants to get sober, he’ll have to abandon his image as tragic writer betrothed to the bottle. And if Angela’s really trying to let Gabe go, like her partner Tony needs her to, she should probably say goodbye to Gabe’s wretched cat—which she’s somehow still looking after. Mary Rachel Brown (The Dapto Chaser) wields her razor-sharp wit to ask painfully familiar questions around romance and addiction: how do we find the strength to be loved? Why do we cling to people intent on pushing us away? And how do we shake off the past, when the bastard won’t stop tailing us? Teaming up Brown’s deft understanding of human fallibility with director Mitchell Butel’s comedic expertise, Dead Cat Bounce finds humour in the everyday muck, with characters that hit rock bottom…and keep digging. Please RSVP Yes & pay for your tickets via the pay pal link that appears. The show starts at 7.00pm and I will meet you about half an hour before. 2019 membership is now available fee via the link below.
