7:05 - GAM Holiday Modeling at Levi’s eCommerce, Adam Chaffee @Levi's

Like most retailers, Levi’s eCommerce is flooded with huge sales over the Thanksgiving week and Cyber Monday. Levi’s welcomes this blue-green tsunami of cash and jeans like a giddy high schooler with the keys to his Dad’s sweet Mustang, but also stays alert to the business risks facing this sales week like no other. Adam Chaffee, Data Scientist at Levi’s, will discuss how Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) were used to model key metrics on an hourly basis to aid in planning and risk mitigation for the 2018 holiday season. He will also share how the forecast was used to identify and quickly adapt to unexpected events. The talk will cover some theory behind GAM modeling, the application of GAMs to Levi’s, and a discussion of results and next steps.
