See the coastal cities of Dubrovnik and Split, then go inland to Plitvice and Zagreb. Along the way you’ll enjoy wine and liqueur tasting; architecture from Roman, Renaissance, and Gothic eras; and breathtaking seaside scenery.
Day 1Dubrovnik Arrival | Welcome Reception
Arrive and spend the day at your leisure. In the evening gather with your fellow travelers and your Tour Director for an orientation and a welcome reception. (WR)
Day 2Dubrovnik Walking Tour | Local artisan visit
Travel north along the spectacular Adriatic coast, past old fishing villages and new resorts, to the city of Split. Tour the historic inner city, built around the Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocietian, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Then see the remnants of Split's Roman heritage: its Renaissance and Gothic structures. Jupiter's Temple, the Peristyle, and the beautiful Cathedral of St. Duje. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (B)
Day 4Hvar Island | Wine Tasting
Board the ferry in Split and set sail for Hvar. The town of Hvar has a unique cultural and historical heritage, plus a centuries-old tradition in tourism. On a walking tour, take in views of the 17th-century theatre, the 13th-century Arsenal, and the central town square, with the Cathedral. Visit the Franciscan Monastery, famous for its collection of old art masters, including Ingoli's 'Last Supper'. Afterward, travel to the old town of Stari Grad, Croatia's oldest, where you will savor 2400 years of history as you taste some local wines. A ferry returns you to Split. (B)
Day 5Zadar | Maraschino Liqeur Tasting | Plitvice Lakes National Park
Continue your journey to Zadar. Take a walking tour featuring Zadar's historical center, with the defensive walls built in the 16th century, the ancient Port Gate where the Venetian lion still stands guard, the Square of the Five Wells, the Church of St. Donart, the Roman Forum (1st century BC) and the largest cathedral in Dalmatia: St Anastasia. Conclude your tour with a tasting of Maraschino liquor. Later, turn inland and travel to the spectacular Plitvice Lakes National Park. Dinner isserved at your hotel. (B, D)
Day 6Plitvice Lakes | Zagreb
Have your camera ready while you walk several of the lower Plitvice lakes. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of this natural wonder of 16 terraced lakes surrounded by dense forests, mountains and lush vegetation. After the visit, continue on to Zagreb. (B)
Day 7Zagreb Tour
Your morning sightseeing tour includes views of the historic Upper Town, St. Mark's Church, St. Catherine's Church, the Cathedral, the Parliament, and Government Palace. The rest of the day is at leisure so you can explore more of the city. In the evening, gather with you fellow travelers, and your Tour Director for a farewell dinner. (B, D)
