ICESAT-2 and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope are a few examples of how an on-premise OpenStack cloud is helping to support real-world science at NASA. We will touch on the importance of these, and discuss some of the ways that having a flexible, software-defined infrastructure makes it easier and faster to meet the needs of various science teams. We will describe the architecture of our cloud, discussing both its strengths and its weaknesses, and open the floor to Q&A. This talk was organized in concert with the OpenStack Scientific SIG.

This presentation and live demo focus on securely integrating OpenStack and OpenShift/Kubernetes with Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) using OpenID Connect. OpenStack and OpenShift/Kubernetes are pivotal cloud management tools, while Azure AD provides robust identity and access management capabilities. By adopting OpenID Connect, a secure authentication protocol, a unified and centralized authentication solution can be achieved for both platforms.

During the presentation, we'll guide attendees through the step-by-step process of configuring Openshift/Kubernetes and Openstack with Azure AD for seamless user authentication. The live demo will showcase the Single Sign-On (SSO) experience, simplifying user access to OpenStack and OpenShift/Kubernetes resources with Azure AD credentials.

By the end of the presentation, attendees will be equipped to optimize their cloud infrastructure, enhance security, and fully leverage the potential of OpenStack and OpenShift/Kubernetes through secure Azure AD integration.

This live demo explores the process and benefits of migrating workloads from VMware, RHV/oVirt and Openstack to OpenShift/Kubernetes Virtualization, with a focus on the utilization of tools such as Forklift and Kubevirt. The migration journey involves assessing the existing VMware environment using Forklift, identifying suitable workloads for migration, and preparing the OpenShift Virtualization infrastructure. Forklift assists in the assessment and planning phase by providing insights into the compatibility and feasibility of migrating workloads. Kubevirt, integrated into OpenShift, enables the management and orchestration of virtual machines within a Kubernetes environment, seamlessly integrating container and virtual machine workloads.
