Design the new logo for the Brisbane UX Group!

Do you have what it takes to design the new logo for the Brisbane UX group? Do you want to enjoy seeing the fruits of your labour every time you come to a group meeting?

With the group continuing to grow and expand, it's time to do some rebranding/establish a visual identity. To do this we need a group logo that can be used on the site and at events.

Rather than farm this out to an expensive design agency (which we don't have any money for anyway) we are going to provide the opportunity for the budding visual designers in the group to apply their skills and contribute to the identity of the group.

Rather than just asking for volunteers, we've put together a modest prize and are going to make a friendly competition for it.

The Prize

The main prize is gaining the kudos that comes with being able to say that you designed the group's logo.

If that is not enough for you, we've also put together a book pack of some classic UX books, including Universal Principles of Design, Getting it Right with Type: The Dos and Don'ts of TypographyAgile Experience DesignInsights 2013: Redefining experience. Off-the-shelf they are worth well over $100, but the knowledge they contain is priceless.

Judging criteria

The logo submissions will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Based on the words "Brisbane UX" for short-form or the full "Brisbane User Experience Group".
  • Reflect the UX design ethos, e.g. useful, usable, engaging, etc.
  • Useable is either large size logo or thumbnail size. This may require two separate versions.
  • Include a banner layout for site is a bonus.
  • Being printer friendly is also a consideration.

Judging panel

Submissions will be judged by a panel of the group organisers, Ben Melbourne, Andrew Wight & Dan Naumann.

When is this happening?

Submission will close on Wednesday 30th October. That's well over a month away. But don't let procrastination catch you out, start designing today.

The winner will be announced at the next meet-up, the UX Bookclub night, on Tuesday 5th November.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch with any of the judges.

Happy designing!
