Upstream & Imperial College London's White City Incubator are delighted to announce that the next speaker in Upstream's Money Talks series is Matt Goldstein, Partner and Head of UK M12 - Microsoft's Venture Fund. Matt will discuss where and why M12 has invested, what it looks for in its investments and top tips for those who want to get his attention! The talk will last around 30 minutes, followed by a Q&A. About Matt Goldstein: Matt leads investments in SaaS, cybersecurity and frontier technology companies, including the blockchain, drone and 3D printing sectors. Previously he was a principal at Trinity Ventures, focused on SaaS and cybersecurity. He began his career as a technology consultant for Fortune 500 insurance and telecommunications clients before joining an early-stage automotive startup that raised $110 million in venture capital to build a new American car company. Matt has an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BA from Pomona College. About M12: M12 is Microsoft's Venture Fund. Drawing on this experience, Mark has since then supported startup growth across the UK, setting up innovation hubs in London, Manchester, Nottingham in his role as chief executive of Accelerate Places (part of venture builder Blenheim Chalcot). In addition, he is playing a pivotal role in the tech scaleup scene, as executive chairman of ScaleSpace, a White City-based joint venture between Blenheim Chalcot and Imperial College London which launches this autumn. In this fireside chat, we’ll explore how Mark got to where he is today, the journey he took to get there, plus the challenges and lessons he’s learnt along the way. Throughout Mark’s career, he has been involved in what he describes as “innovational growth”. A veteran of the UK financial services industries, his career included senior roles at First Direct, Lloyds TSB and Capital One. At the last, he established its personal loan and savings business in the UK and wasVP for Service Operations across all of its European product offerings. Mark’s support of start-up and scale up businesses has given him extensive knowledge of the scaling industry and a rich, personal insight into the challenges of growth and what he believes are the key ingredients to successful scaling.
