If you have not visited the walkways along Putah Creek at UC Davis, suggest you sign up for this one - it's an amazing and impressive arboretum along the creek, with footbridges spanning the waterway. The paths are popular with cyclists, dog walkers, joggers and walkers. Total loop around arboretum on both sides of creek is around 4 1/4 miles. Leashed dogs ok (please bring poop bag). Wear comfortable walking shoes (paved & gravel surfaces) and bring water bottle along the way.
For those who wish to stay for food afterwards, let's go to Davis Commons area at 500 First St., Davis (near corner of Richards Blvd) and eat at the Burger Patch (they have vegan burgers) and outdoor seating. Park behind the small shopping center in large lot.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Don't believe any of the campus restrooms will be open. Suggest stopping at SHELL GAS STATION (we drive right by it) at 1010 Olive Dr. Davis (corner of Richards Blvd) which has a market and restrooms.
MEET at Life's A Grind in Galt by 8:30 a.m. OR at U.C. Davis by 9:30a.m. We'll be parking on campus at lot on corner of OLD DAVIS RD. with ARBORETUM DR. On weekends, parking fees are not enforced and this is a visitor parking area.
NOTE: Suggest taking Richards Blvd. (exit #72B) off Hwy #80 into Davis, then left on First St., left again on Old Davis Rd. PARKING LOT is just a little way down from there, over the bridge on the left side.
Let's enjoy a morning walk at Cosumnes River Preserve. We can walk 3+ miles through the Preserve on flat, designated trails. There is a mix of sun and shade on the trails that are a mix of paved and dirt. Hope you can join me. Bring water and a snack if you want.
For those ladies who like to go kayaking, let's head over to Rancho Seco Lake, just 13 miles east of Galt, for a morning of paddling. You can bring your own kayak, or rent either a single or double kayak from the boathouse, which opens at 10 a.m. Prices are: $10 first hour/$8 second hour for single kayak; $12 first hour/$10 second hour for double kayak. All rentals require deposit of about $40. (They have 5 singles & 5 doubles to rent out.) We'll likely be out on the water at least 1 1/2 hours - so recommend renting for 2 hours. It's OK if you are new to kayaking, we'll take it slow and easy near the lakeshore.
Let's first meet at coffee shop in Galt by 9:30a.m. to rideshare out there as entry fee is $12 per vehicle. (No extra charge if you bring your own kayak). Otherwise, just plan on meeting out at the lake by 10a.m. Bring a snack/picnic lunch for afterwards.
Suggest bringing: strong baggie for your phone/keys; wide-brimmed hat, cold water container, sunscreen, and wear lightweight clothes. Choose shoes/sandals that can get wet (or just go barefoot). Be sure to bring a life vest unless you are renting - they will supply the vest for you (and the paddle, of course).
