Managing Up ... As a Manager

Online event

Sometimes we forget our bosses also need to be managed. Who has the time to develop this working relationship when there are some many things to do? Providing accurate status reports is just not enough and neglecting this aspect can only hinder our careers as engineering leaders. This talk can help you uncover this blind spot, understand the value of managing up and how to act on it. Diego Quiroga is going to talk about how we can manage up. Diego Quiroga is a Senior Engineering Manager at Sauce Labs, working on devices virtualization for the world's largest automated test cloud for web and mobile applications. Prior to Sauce Labs, he led engineering teams at AWS, OLX, and Google building large scale distributed systems. He mentors engineering leaders through the Vancouver SDMs group and PlatoHQ. We are going to do a different format for this 2nd virtual Meetup event - the spirit of experimentation. See the event details below for more information. Join us to learn more from each other about how to manage up (invite your fellow managers as well)! Event details 5:15-5:20p.m. Welcoming 5:20-5:45p.m. Talk + Q&A 5:45-6:05p.m. Breakout sessions into small group discussion 6:05-6:15p.m. Share learnings from small groups 6:15-6:30p.m. Wrap up and social (if you feel like it ...) Please note that this zoom meeting is password-protected. The password will be sent to you (through Meetup) on Tue Jul 7 afternoon. Please join the zoom link with your real name. Since we are still experimenting virtual events, please provide feedback to us to see how we can improve on it. _______________________ Please RSVP if you are coming and please update promptly if your plan changes. Our "No Show" policy - we will remove you from the group if you RSVP but do not show up a few times. We hope that it would provide some fairness to our hosting company, our organizers as well as other people who got onto the wait list wanting to come to our events.
