As we only have a few people RSVP'd today... probably largely because VegFest was scheduled on our usual Meetup weekend, our plans have changed a bit...

You are still welcome to go to Aladdin Cafe, of course, but there won't be anything formal organized. The informal plan is to head straight to VegFest and mill around and check out the food vendors there. Feel free to meet at the entrance to VegFest near the main side parking lot - we will try and be there roughly around 2:00 pm depending on a few things - but nothing official / formal if you don't happen to bump into us. There should be lots of members and friendly faces there!

Hope to see you there, or at the next Meetup! The plan is to do the all you care to eat vegan pizza buffet at Waldo Pizza next month! :)

Previous plans... (Formal plans canceled, but feel free to check out their awesome food!)

We'll be in the 39th street area having Middle Eastern at Aladdin Café. If you've never had Middle Eastern food, this is a great vegan friendly choice. Think hummus & pita bread, grape leaf rolls (aka Dolmas), baba ganoush, roasted red pepper / genie dip, falafal sandwiches, and some of the best yellow lentil soup you've ever had... if you're not one of our vegan members they also have some tasty phyllo dough krass pastries.

Pita bread is normally vegan, as is theirs. If you go for the salad make sure to remember that they put feta cheese on it, you can also order the sampler platters with out feta cheese or krass pastries and get more of something instead - AKA order vegan style.

They have seating for about 70 people with the patio (about 20)... depending on our count and the weather we may be outside - otherwise we'll get our group inside. We keep it capped lower to avoid conflicting with their regular guests.

We've decided to order from the menu this time around, they have some great sandwiches and such at reasonable prices, an interesting roasted cauliflower dish, a simple rice and lentil dish, as well as assorted individual items. I highly recommend the sampler platter. (We could arrange a vegan buffet, but at 12-13 dollars depending on the group size, we thought it best to keep it affordable and flexible for as many as possible.)

This is one of the best local Mediterranean restaurants, and also one of the best I've ever tried while traveling around. We do have several other good places in town though!

Please - make the effort to keep your RSVP accurate!!! We need venues to happily continue to accommodate us. Imagine reserving most of the seats in a busy restaurant, and then showing up with only a handful of people...

If you enjoy our events as much as we do, please also consider donating a few dollars to help our volunteers cover our Meetup site costs. Contribute online (https://secure.meetup.com/vegetarian-14/contribute/) or in person.
